+705 It's stupid that in the six decades between the ages of 5 and 65, the average person is always busy with something. In all those 60 years, they are either in school or at work with only a few summer breaks and weeklong vacations to break the cycle.  People should get one free year at some point between toddlerhood and retirement, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There are only 5 decades between 5 and 65, smart one.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Try again?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's 60 years, and a decade is 10 years. It's six decades... Smart one.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, there are 6. 5-15, 15-25, 25-35, 35-45, 45-55, 55-65. That is 6 decades. Count before you criticize.

oh lovely anonymous one, how you humor me sometimes

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i think about this all the time honestly. i think about how my life is school and i can't do anything i want to, i get my breaks picked out for my by the b.o.e. and thats it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This would be amazing. Especially for people with long, difficult careers. My dad had 8 years of college [lawyer], and he still works 6, sometimes 7, days a week. And he will continue working until he's 65. I'm positive he isn't the only one. Breaks would be SO nice.

just made me realize how life is just basically 65 years....after that, u basically have no meaning in the world, and is just waiting for death as the final event. unless you enjoy retirement homes I guess

by Anonymous 13 years ago

wow this is depressing. i think that everyone ought to go on like, a trip around the world one year or something exciting for them, you know? i really want to go on a road trip with friends before we go to college or something :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Maybe your life is meaningless, but I know plenty of people who have accomplished meaningful things after retirement

by Anonymous 13 years ago

im just saying that after age 65, there really isnt much of a purpose except to babysit grandchildren and whatnot. nothing really important to do in life anymore. everything's been accomplished.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, everything official that everyone needs to do is accomplished (work) however some retired people do a lot of volunteer work, and babysitting that also leaves a huge impact on babysitted, old people share their knowledge and wisdom with these kids and they will affect the future in a way you and I can't even imagine. But mostly the whole volunteer work thing has an impact on the now and here

Gap year between school and uni?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

GAP YAH IN BURMA!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

as long as everyone isnt taking it at the same time because there would be nothing to do.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Uhhhh yeah its called "retirement" and it lasts till you die

by Anonymous 13 years ago

ono Try rereading the last sentence, smartass.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah I saw that...basically you work your whole life to have a nice retirement. If you really work hard enough and not take time off (time is money,so a year off would be nice but in reality would be a huge setback) you would have an awesome time as an old man.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Your original comment is wrong (because @639250 (BreakfastFan): was talking about a break before retirement...) your explanation (although it is true) is irrelevant

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No one is stopping you apart from yourself

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's life, yo

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Try becoming a politician. They seem to have a lot of breaks.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You can quit anytime you want. But you want that money don't you? Bitch.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree with #639122 Isn't that what Gap Year is for?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You seem to think that everyone does this "gap year" thing...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But why wouldn't you if you want a break so badly?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I would, but most people, at least where I live, never do it. Besides, from what I know it is less of a break and more of charity work. I'm talking about a year where you get paid but are able to do what you want for a change.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm going on mine next year and it's not charity work. I'm going to heaps of places overseas and working at the same time. That's what everyone I know does anyway.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hmm that actually sounds great, I'll have to look into it. I've never known anyone whose done it but that's exactly te kind of thing that I'd like to do after 14 years of school.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You can take a gap year before you start university or something.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ehh, I don't think gap years are the same, because at the time that you're 18, you still have like five decades of work ahead of you. I'd rather take a gap year when I'm like forty or something, and really deserve the break.
