Most people who call Obama a socialist, don't even know what "socialism" is. amirite?
by Anonymous13 years ago
I think it applies more to people who call him a fascist or Nazi, but I get what you mean.
by Anonymous13 years ago
.. no.. everyone I know who says that knows what it means.
by Anonymous13 years ago
...You realize, that if they (the people calling him a socialist) understood what it meant, and mind you, in no way am I labeling as one who says that he is, then they wouldn't be calling him a socialist.
It doesn't even make sense to call him a socialist. None of the platforms he pushed for can hardly be labeled socialist.
by Anonymous13 years ago
It's called Conservatives going crazy.
I can understand them calling him "a step in the wrong direction".
But calling him a Socialist proves how ignorant some of them can be.

Universal health care would be considered a form of socialism.
by Anonymous13 years ago
So can public schools...
by Anonymous13 years ago
I never said the education system wasn't considered socialism.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Fair enough, but it's still stupid that people think Obama is a socialist (not saying you do) because he wants universal health care when there are other things in America that are socialistic in nature.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Just because they're are other socialistic things in America doesn't mean that Obama isn't a socialist. By wanting to impose socialistic policies makes him a socialistic if you argee with him or not.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Dosn't that make everyone who uses roads, public libraries, parks and schools socialist?
by Anonymous13 years ago
You are so dumb, so very dumb. It makes those who came up with said institutions some what socialist it doesn't make everyone socialist. Just because Obama is everybody in Americas president doesn't make everybody a democrat.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I think people who think Obama is a socialist are dumb. Practically evey other developed country has universal healthcare, Australia isn't socialist but we have universal healthcare, same as England etc... America isn't 100% Capitalist, you pay taxes that go towards things everyone in society can use.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Just because people in government come up with ideas like this dosn't mean that they want to turn the whole country into a socialist nation.
by Anonymous13 years ago
He is a socialist because he is trying to institue a socialistic feature of society I never said is was good or bad. It's just the way it is.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Socialism, watered down is pretty much this.
I bake bread, you make wine, I can take your bread, you can take mine.
Welfare isn't socialist, because homeless people can't take an endless amount of food, and they don't provide anything in return for receiving that food.
School is not socialist, especialy at the college level. It's a government service, paid for through taxpayers money. We aren't giving them, say, our houses to use as office spaces in return for them providing us with education. That would be socialism.
That's why free healthcare isn't socialist. It's a crappy idea imo, but it isn't socialist. We're not providing a service or a product in return for their (the government's or whoever's) service or product, we're paying for it.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Providing a service or product for another service or product is a market economy not a social economy. A social economy is having to provide let's say money for something to help other people. For instance: you receive health insurance through your place of employment, but you are also forced to pay taxes to cover somebody elses health care because they can't/don't want to pay for it themself.
Everything and everybody is made equal no matter how hard you work and how much harder you work you both receive the same.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Social economy =/= socialism.
You are right in what you said, providing a service/product in exchange for another's service/product is not a social economy, it's the core idea of socialism
by Anonymous13 years ago
Granted my bread and wine example was extremely watered down, and in laymens terms.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Market economy when one person/country trades one thing they produce to another for another
by Anonymous13 years ago
Alright alright, whatever you say. I don't want to go back and forth with you on this and waste your time, no one gains from that.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Oh and I obviously don't beleive everyone who uses public services are socialist. I was trying to make a point.
by Anonymous13 years ago
It's not the using of it's the instituting. You can't choose whether or not to pay taxes for said socialism, but a person (Obama) can choose whether or not to insitue such policies.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I agree with you completely here.
The only thing is that, some people tend to forget that he was voted in with universal healthcare as one of his main platforms.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I think 90% of the political commentary on this site is completely ignorant; picked up in bits and pieces from parents, teachers, and TV, and regurgitated out of context as if it were "gospel".
by Anonymous13 years ago
I'm not saying he is a socialist, but the people who say it I know for a fact know what it is.
by Anonymous13 years ago
People who are grammar Nazis like me, don't like your use of a comma.
by Anonymous13 years ago
You know tjay obama is back by the communist party of america right? You know they sposored his last rally? I should hope THEY know what socialism is...
by Anonymous13 years ago
How come people seem to dislike socialism? I wouldn't call Obama a socialist, since I'm not sure what the word means, but I like what Obama's doing and I like what I think is socialism, so Obama could be a bit socialist?
by Anonymous13 years ago
(American) People seem to be very afraid of socialism and consider it a bad thing. If you look at some of the socialist nations in europe they are doing great. Examples are the Scandinavian coutries.
