+217 Humans are not getting smarter no matter what scientists say, yeah sure we have technology so advance we can signal someone across the globe in a mere second but our common sense is flawed. Primitive man would run from a fire knowing theres danger but nowadays when someone sees a fire they rush towards it and watch it even though theres nothing they can do without their fire hose(technology) a... amirite?

Wut?

I agree, if technology keeps advancing, people might end up becoming more stupid, because naturally people are lazy and they will end up letting the technology run their lives. I mean without the people in the past, all this technology wouldn't even exist.... The original mathematicians and scientists are either directly or indirectly responsible for todays creations

It's proven that human minds are shrinking in capciaty. The primitive man had to have the ability to be able to make tools out of stone, everything we have now adays may as well be served on a golden platter.

Lol, Wall-e...

In response to your username: I'll get right on that... Where do you live?

I like to think of the human race as similar to the vampire race in Christopher Moore's 'Bite Me.' Anybody read it? No. Okay. Well, basically, as the race progresses and more, deeper generations are forged, sophistication decreases, as do instincts and intelligence.

Lazy.

Calvin would be dissapoint.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I made up for my lazy comment by adding the mr. Poophouse guy to my friends list.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Which I think kinda proves OP's point... :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Agreed. We might have advanced technology right now, but it's those individuals that create the technology who are smarter and are the ones looking into making it even better. Everybody else just uses the technology created in order to do everything for them, which leads us to the rapid increase of laziness in this society. Then we want to complain about it running too slow and act like we can't live without it, when really we can we just don't want to tolerate doing so because of our modern lazy nature.

I agree with you there - actually, there are theories that soon we'll fall into another 'Dark Ages' of sorts. Society has a history of ages of great discovery, then collapsing. In the medieval period, people forgot how to make crossbows. Now it will be things like cars, aeroplanes, phones, electricity. Of course, there are also theories that indicate that if we forget those things, it'll be the second time, as supposedly the Greeks at one time discovered how to make a car.

The rise of atheism is evidence that human intelligence is on the rise.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

that's a matter of opinion to many, but I agree. Atheists branch out from the rest and question life and our existence, leading to new scienctific discoveries.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

wtf ever you must be an idiotic atheist if you think no religious person wonders the origins of the universe without giving credit to their god

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The example used in this post is rather stupid. Primitive man runs away from the fire because there is nothing they can do to stop it.

Humans using tools and technology is not a sign of the world growing less intelligent. It is simply using our resources to our advantage in order to conserve energy. Mind you we could use a little bit less energy conservation in that regards lately but its still instinctually what intelligent species try to do. One way scientist measure intelligence in animals is there ability to use tools.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah but 'tools' are different than a tiny box that does everything for you.Yes, some people have lives the necessitate a fancy phone I guess but not everyone-especially not 15 year olds. People are so disconnected now, I dont spend every waking second staring at my phone when the only people that matter are the ones I am with. I am able to think about complex ideas and concepts without a phone or whatever. And we are barely doing shit to conserve energy now.

Oh yeah and technology has kept/slowed evolution/natural selection. All of those who would have been 'naturally selected' out of existence are not anymore. People can make replacement organs (eventually) which is not a terrible thing-it would be great for people that cant find donors and whatnot, BUT there is some rich prick that would take it too far and try to live forever, just replacing his organs as they go bad.

That's not how it works, buddy.
