+738 Gays are usually portrayed as flamboyant and feminine in the media, and not usually just a regular guy who just happens to like other guys. Lesbians are portrayed either really butch or the more erotic variation, which is sexy, curvy, voluptuous and usually blonde (and sometimes brunette), and never just a regular female who just happens to like other females. amirite?

You're right... but really, nothing is portrayed realistically by most media sources.

Blacks are either portrayed as dangerous criminals or supergeniuses.

Or basketball players.

That too.

Well, the cliche of an over weight female African-American female with an amazing voice is also used a lot.

Also, Disney Channel used to have a tendency to make black people the main characters of shows (e.g. That's So Raven, The Proud Family, Sister Sister.)

Or comedians.

In degrassi, Riley, who is gay is portrayed as just a regular guy who likes football and sports and all that stuff :)

But Marco, the original Degrassi gay guy, was portrayed as flamboyant. That being said, I love degrassi (the older seasons, mostly) and Marco was one of the best characters ever.

Stereotypes are based on reality. The reason we think this is because a lot of them are.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In reality, gays are just piss-useless parasites.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

in reality, you're just a close minded fuck. Love is love.

Gays are not regular people...

(Chicken Sandwich): why does someone elses sexual orientation matter so much to you? Let's get out of the 1800's, kthxbai.

Ha. But on thing I find funny is life imitating art, nowadays when homosexual teenagers come out, many of them go through a bit of a "pride" phase before accepting that their sexuality is just one part of who they are. IE being the flamboyant, prancing gay men, or butch, manly lesbian.

The media wouldn't be able to get the idea across if the gay person just acted like a straight person. I know gay people that you wouldn't guess so in real life things are not always that way.
