It's a pain to fast forward all of that and then you don't want to miss the actually beginning of the song by fast forwarding too far a head. amirite?

Some songs do have that... except op might be exagerrating when s/he said 3-6 minutes, but still some have a long pause at the beginning or end... I haven't encountered any in the middle lately though

yes it was an exaggeration, and i know there are also songs with hidden ones and i have had songs with long silences at the beginning. sometimes there might be piano, but i know one that starts with white noise at the beginning

OP, I suggest you download audacity or some audio editor for free and then remove the parts you don't like. Sometimes I download a song from youtube and since it's from the music video it has parts that aren't part of the song and I just edit them out and NOW SO CAN YOU!!!11!!1
