+114 Whenever you help someone, you do not have their best interests in mind, instead you are trying to strengthen the relationship for your own benefit, amirite?

Humanity is pathetic, I have just lost my last ounce of faith in society.

Sad but true.

...No. If I saw some stranger who was alone and needed help, I would help them even if I knew I would never see them again.

You would help them because it would make you feel better about yourself which makes it selfish.

More of a "If I were in their shoes, I would want help" type of thing. It's the opposite of selfish. It's taking the time to consider how the other person is feeling, and then take the time out of your day to help them. Sometimes helping people annoys you more than it makes you happy, but you do it anyway because it's the right thing to do.

It's a psychological thing. It's not sad. It's just the way things are. This is what makes us like animals. If a husband wants to save his wife from a tornado, he is doing so selfishly.

This is probably one of the most things I hate about myself. Except i don't do it to strengthen the relationship, I do it to get a sense of self satisfaction...
