I think its the opposite, 20 years ago you were an outcast of society. Now yeah it is fashion-but i think of them as body decorations. Tattoos can be beautiful works of art and they have personal meaning to people. I love body art.

I wish my parents would understand this. I want another piercing right above my current ("regular") ear piercing, but I don't know if they'll let me. (They fail to realize how many people they see on a daily basis who have more than one piercing.)

Why don't you ask them? Maybe they'll say yes... I thought my mom wouldn't let me get piercings/tattoos but she did.

I have asked them. My mom blurted out, "NO!" before apologizing and saying that she would consider it. Oy.
