It honestly works, though. I've had people not be able to recognize me after I grew a beard. Granted, these people hadn't necessarily seen me too much in the past.

It works because, most of the time, the boss has had no previous interaction with these low level workers. They've maybe seen a couple pictures of him and that's it, so obviously they won't recognize him with slight differences.

I agree. Change in amount or color of hair will work with people that are not very familiar. Hair is a big deal for visual recognition. :)
