+295 What happens when someone who has a hyphenated last name gets married and wants to hyphenate their name to their partner's? Do they just end up with a double hyphenated name, amirite?

The children never have a hyphenated name. They just take on the name of one of the parents, usually the father. In this scenario, only the mom would have a hyphenated name. If she were to get divorced, she would likely lose the hyphenation and go back to her maiden name. Therefore, no one with an already hyphenated name would get married and therefore, be able to get another hyphenation. No one sane anyway. xD

I was thinking more along the lines of being BORN with a hyphenated name. When you're born, they only take your father's last name.

Picture this. Two people, both with hyphenated names come together and hyphenate their names. Therefore: Mr. and Mrs. Smith-Jones-Brown-Jordan.

My name is a hyphenated last name: Eilidh Albert-Recht. You could take the other person's name and make a double hyphenation, but I'm not sure why you'd want that... Apparently double hyphens are illegal in Germany.
