The majority of AIDS cases are among African tribes. There people are born with AIDS there all the time. It was discovered among civilized societies in the gay male population (gay men didn't use condoms because men don't get pregnant) but since so many people have AIDS in Africa it most likely originated there, it just can't be proven.
