+420 You have been forced to read either To Kill A Mockingbird or Romeo and Juliet, or both, in school. amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I had to read both but I don't mind, I love reading :)

We're reading "To Kill a Mockingbird" righ now.

Right**

To kill a Mocking Bird is actually pretty cool, I read it on my own. However Romeo and Juliet was pretty boring, Shakespearean is that much fun.

Love TKAM, hate Romeo and Juliet. It has a stupid plot full of silly impulses made by 2 dumb people.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I sort of agree with you. I don't like the plot at all, but I do think it sounds pretty. Really, it's just overrated.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah I read TKAM last year but i loved it...as for romeo and juliet, i love that too...especially benvolio

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i didnt really like benvolio, i think it was mainly his fault that they both ended up dead. If benvolio never told Romeo that he saw Juliet dead, Romeo would have gotten the letter when the friar brought it, but since he told him, romeo went to verona and killed himself, then juliet killed herself. They could have lived the rest of their lives in mantua if benvolio didnt tell him.

A PLAGUE O' BOTH YOUR HOUSES Oh wait, I thought you meant Mercutio. Benvolio's kind of useless, Mercutio is the man!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Personally I like the DiCaprio version of Romeo and Juliet in which Mercutio spends a large portion of time as a drag queen.

ugh Romeo + Juliet = WORST LOVE STORY EVER!

Freshman year of high school we read Romeo and Juliet in my English class...my teacher made us read it out loud and assigned characters for us everyday and "act" it out. To go against the old idea that woman couldn't be actors, she decided to give all the male roles to girls and all female roles to boys. It was a very weird two weeks

Read both freshman year. Both great works of literature. Now add Lord of the Flies, The Catcher in the Rye, The Great Gatsby and Hamlet to this list.

I was forced to read Romeo and Juliet. TKAM was an amazing book and I was pissed off when other students complained about getting assigned to read it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I read TKAM on my own time. A couple times. Or maybe a hundred. At first I didn't want to but ended up doing so because I was named after Harper Lee, so I kind of had too. But every time I try to watch Romeo and Juliet I end up falling asleep.

LOL I was taught R&J by a teacher whose main task was to get us to understand that he was a horny teenager and she was a bit of a hoebag. But it's still a classic piece of literature, just like TKAM. So the English nerd in me has the highest respect for it.

Just finished TKAM, and found out (yesterday actually) that we're going to be reading Rom and Jules soonish ... I liked TKAM but judging by the comments, i'm a bit worried about the latter....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Don't worry. I lot of people don't like it because Shakespeare is hard to read, and because it's tragic (it's also not Shakespeare's best).

by Anonymous 13 years ago

TKAM wasn't that bad. Romeo and Juliet was shit though.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well I didn't have to read either of those books... but I did have to read Goethe's Faust. Probably because I live in Austria. Goethe is so much worse than Shakespeare...

I loved TKAM, but reading Romeo and Juliet was like pulling teeth. I understand that it is well written, but it's not really a love story. More of an infatuation story. "Oh. I looked at you and now we're in love. Lets go die now because these 3 days we've spent together totally proves that we're soul mates."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I wasn't forced... They are just good books

by Anonymous 13 years ago

we read romeo&juliet in either grade and gonna read to kill a mocking bird junior year.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I read both my freshman year. I LOVED Romeo and Juliet and TKAM was good. My English teacher rocked that year and made R&J so much fun to read because she helped us understand all of the sexual jokes in it.
