I'd like to know how they are able to tell if someone's subconscious killed them. Especially since nobody could ask them, since they're dead and all.

Ohh, you mean that it's a spoiler for the book Looking for Alaska. But people wouldn't know what the spoiler was about unless they read the entire thing, and they wouldn't just assume it was for that book.

Ah, but they would. If you'd just started the book and you saw my comment (even if it didn't say "spoiler alert"), you'd think "Wait, what does autocide have to do with Looking For Alaska? . . . Oh shit, someone dies at the end!". And you wouldn't even be able to wonder who dies, because there's really only one character for whom autocide would make sense.
