+534 It's really sad how these days the teenagers are the ones typing/texting like adults (full words) and the adults are the ones typing/texting like teenagers, amirite?

Haha, I do that - type in full words in a text message.

It's sadder that it's considered "old", or whatever, to express yourself clearly and correctly... most phones aren't really limited to 160 characters anymore(even if it sends as more than one message, it still works), so the whole point behind text shorthand is moot. I think you're less likely to make mistakes when it counts, if you just do it right all the time.

Example of my aunt on facebook "....lol...goin too the gym..omg...no nothin...........I LUV U HUBBY O MINES...........................!!!!w1111!!" It makes my eyes bleed.

Why's that sad? And if one age group uses it and another doesn't, then that means it belongs to that age group... if adults needed strollers, you wouldn't say, it's sad how adults need strollers... strollers are fun and if I had the opportunity I would buy one too. Another thing, teens need to use proper grammar, because they're probably also in school and if you text a lot with bad grammar, then you might end up screwing up during a paper you have to right... adults are free from that worry, unless they write books for a living.... Or something along those lines

The thing is, EVERYONE should have correct grammar. Its not that hard really. And when adults use incorrect grammar *2nd post above me* it makes them look childish and people mistake them for 12 year olds. I know Im not the only one. Overall, proper grammar makes you sound that much smarter and educated. They need to be the role model for teenagers.

Why do you need to sound smarter or more educated than/to your friends? I mean if they're friends with you, I'm sure they know whether or not you're an idiot... you're friends aren't going to be impressed, you know how to spell correctly... after a certain age, you really don't care about that kind of stuff. I mean texting isn't supposed to be something formal, it's something people do amongst friends.... Why is there a need to make sure your text looks like it's going to be graded by your English teacher? If you have a girl/boyfriend and they come up with a nickname for you, are you going to be like, oh you don't know how to talk properly, I'm sorry you're an idiot? The spelling you use while texting is in a way a form of endearment, knowing no matter how atrocious your spelling might be, your friends will not care or be judgMENTAL.

I agree with you on texting, that has a language on its own. But if you're like typing on the internet, your grammar is the first thing that makes the first impression. I'm not that strict on myself with grammar/spelling, I wont even pretend to know that much because I speak English as a second language but its just weird to me, you know? Because usually, teenagers just mess with words to " be cool " or " unique ", then its weird to see an adult type like that. But yeah, I get your point. :]

Okay and I speak English as a third language, also if they're doing it for the reasons you said such as "to be cool" or "unique", then it is stupid... but I feel like adults have their own reasons for doing that. Or it might just be that they want to feel young... I'm not saying it's right, but it's still something to consider. You're also right about writing like that on the internet, because it does change the way people see you, if it's their first time meeting you
