Full House did not have a "too-happy family". They actually did deal with some serious issues like pre-teen drinking, anorexia, smoking, death, and child abuse.

I feel bad for this but as a kid when I learned about assassinations I wanted one of the characters to die. For example Jessie gets killed in the backyard. The episode would be different. I kind of stopped this when I realized that they would mope about it for about a season instead of like 2 episodes.
