+1,737 Racism is a thing learned through culture; you aren't born with it. I mean, little kids color people every color of the rainbow and think nothing of it, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, you do learn it and usually from your parents, but that's only an excuse until you want to be taken seriously as having a mind of your own. Any adult or near-adult claiming to not be able to help being racist since their parents are is weak-minded.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I just made black people cause they're easier to draw

by Anonymous 13 years ago

wth?! A person is a person?!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I didn't know that homicidal clowns were so politically correct.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Now you know.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I always drew white people because I am white and I didn't have to color them in if it was on white paper(:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(:(): Thats wat i did, but I'm black.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

actually, studies show that three-month-olds prefer faces of people of their own race. not that i'm endorsing racism, just sayin'

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There's only one race: the human race... LOLJK, I got that from a poster xD

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Racism is a social construct; it's inherent in the system, not in humanity. I agree wholeheartedly.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm eating chips.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

OMFG ARE THEY DORITOS!?!?!?!?!?!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Omg have you guys had the Beefy Crunch Burritto from taco bell ? That shits bomb.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah that probably does make you shit bombs.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They're doritos.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

colour* hehe

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They're both acceptable spellings.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

it was a joke, well done

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That depends on where you are. "Color" isn't acceptable Canadian spelling. I spell it "colour."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In America they're both acceptable, and that's where I am so whatever.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, that doesn't defeat my point.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No one likes a hipster!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why? Because we're hip and you're not?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If by hip you mean like a hippo then yes! Because I'm the Hiphopopotamus, so I'm hipper and my lyrics are bottomless!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

stolen from flight of the conchords, not cool

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Be more constructive with your feedbacks... please. That was the response I was hoping to get from my first comment. I don't know why I expected such an awesome response from a hipster though.... Even though I kinda set you up perfectly....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well we don't go with the obvious mainstreme answers, you should know that

by Anonymous 13 years ago

FoTC isn't mainstream... they're kiwis!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Do you know what mainstreme means?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If it's the same as mainstream, then yes! And I'm joking

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i'm avoiding the mainstreme way of spelling 'mainstream' :D we cool bro we cool

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Okay, I was wondering that as I was asking you that... I didn't want to seem like a grammar nazi, but it could be like a whole new word, that I didn't even know of.... Who knows what you crazy kids come up with these days.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well we like to stay one step ahead but i'll keep you noted on new word creations

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's really nice of you! I think you have one less person hating hipsters now.... Oh it's not me, I'm just assuming someone will read how nice you are and end up liking you guys. Don't worry I still hate you guys!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

haha don't hate me cus you ain't me!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Do you have flows that glow like phosphorus?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Where did you get that preposterous hypothesis? Did Steve tell you that, perchance?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Gotta love fotc.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Any person who calls him/herself a hipster automatically makes them a poser, just to let you know. You're being the opposite of a hipster right now.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Unless, he is being part of the minority who is going against the mainstream hipsters who don't call themselves a hipster!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah... that's not how being a hipster works.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What do you mean? During a rebellion, there's always the hardcore/radical group and the moderate ones. This guy is obviously so hip, he comes up with his own rules....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The whole point of being a hipster is never admitting to it. Their music/way of life is just so advanced that "mainstream" people don't understand it, and so it's the mainstream that calls them a hipster. Most of the people that I know who are referred to as hipsters hate being labelled as such, because being called a hipster is actually kind of an insult. So even if he were to be a more radical hipster, he still wouldn't call himself a hipster because a true hipster(/indie kid) knows being called a hipster is an insult. Does this make sense? I've been studying for hours now and my brain is kinda fried :s

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I do see what you're saying, but what if he has come to terms with who he is and acknowledged it? I mean me personally, I like the indie films and some music that no one's ever heard of. And I have applications running on my computer that people don't normally use. Like instead of Microsoft Word, I have Open Office, instead of iTunes I use winamp and so on and so on. I wear what I want and not necessarily what's in "trend." Not because no one knows it or because it's indie, but because that's my preference. I don't consider myself a "hipster" 1. Because I'm not completely sure what that entails. 2. Because I also enjoy watching and listening to mainstream stuff. As a matter of fact, I'm happy when the people I like become mainstream, just because now more people will listen to them and they can actually make a good living. I do wish I was more up to date with the new lingo, so I could answer your question properly. Why are you studying in the middle of winter break?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, it's human nature to single people out as inferior.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Is it human nature to single someone out as inferior solely because of the color of their skin?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not precisely, but people would usually find some reason.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We automatically group things. If a kid sees skin color as the most obvious difference in a crowd of people which they most likely would, they'll group the people according to skin color. And, they would probably be drawn to the ones that look most like them. So yea, it could be.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Racism often developes in a person after they have a bad experience with a person of a particular race and they then think everyone of that race is the same.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I always made mine peach colored...and I'm not even white myself ^_^;

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Nobody's born a bigot.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yea but it would have turned heads to see a green and purple and rainbow people walking around in real life, rather than in crayon drawings.....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I colored people pink or blue just because I liked those colors.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think that some kids are unintentionally made racist. When I was a kid, I went to an all white school, for the most part. A lot of my friends grew to be racist because the only people they had experienced were their own kind. They were unintentionally made racist when they were younger and it stuck with them.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Racism huh? As I live in Iceland there is little worry of racism (tough my friends dad happens to be a rather loose racist). Asians are somewhat rare but you can probably see a few everyday, Black people on the other hand are super rare, my whole life I have probably seen like 5 black people in real life. This is how it is when you live in a nice country with only 300,000 people.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I've read over half of the comments on here, and it seems to me that only white people are racist. Yes, I know it's "more whites than other that are racist" but that doesn't mean black(if I may use this term) people can't be racist against white or even Mexicans, it's kind of idiotic how people assume racism only goes one way. Just my two cents....maybe it was 3 cents?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I like this post a lot for some reason

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Everyone's a little bit racist it's true. But everyone's just about as racist as you. If we all could just admit, that we are racist a little bit, even though we all know that it's wrong. Maybe it could help us get along. [Avenue Q]

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Genetically, it's actually harder to distinguish people of a different race than your own from each other than people of your race. (As in, "all black people look the same!") So, like other people have said, some racism is human nature.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You group people together based on certain characteristics, that's how your brain works. You feel loyalty to the group you belong to, the in-group. However, you add certain characteristics to the out-group, stereotyping, and exaggerate the bad qualities of the out-group, seeing your own group as the better one. The point is, you are constantly proving the superiority of your in-group over the out-group. This is a cause of racism. You are born with this, as your brain works like that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

but that means that you shouldn't allow people to prove you WRONG, and dislike people you don't know because of that? I, personally, don't think so.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(<3 (:): Yes, you actually dislike people you don't know solely because of the fact that they belong to another group.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That doesn't seem right to me, and I myself don't find myself thinking that way. And even if you do, there's a difference between human nature and racism, if its racism you will act on those groups, without giving the INDIVIDUAL a chance to set themselves apart. At least that's what I think.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(<3 (:): The theory is proven in this article: Experiments in intergroup discrimination, by Tajfel (1970), and this paper: Moral Hypocrisy, by DeSteno and Valdesolo (2007).

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I read this too quickly and didn't notice it said 'people'. I was wondering what the fuck rainbows had to do with racism

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There's a difference between identifying with a certain race and considering yourself superior (or others inferior) because of your race. The latter is racism. Babies identify with other people of their own race. Makes sense if that's the people they're spending time wit. You *learn* to hate those people who are different.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The point is, you consider the group you belong to as the better group. This does not only aply to race, just any group you consider yourself a member of.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i personally don't, or I try my best to keep those types of thoughts at bay, but maybe most people do.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, you most likely do, that's just how your brain works.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How do you know how my brain works? You're not me. Do I identify most with my race? Yes. Do I like my race (myself)? Yes. Do I think my race is superior to any others? No.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Considering that your brain works like the majority of the human population, your brain does work like that. It's not that I just made this up or anything, it's a scientifically proven theory. The theory is proven in this article: Experiments in intergroup discrimination, by Tajfel (1970), and this paper: Moral Hypocrisy, by DeSteno and Valdesolo (2007). Do I think my race is superior to any others? No. It's not as black and white as you say it now. It's not that you really think you're superior or better. But you're unconciously proving your superiority over an outgroup.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If it's a theory, it's not proven. Otherwise, it wouldn't be a theory, it would be a fact. I've seen studies that *suggested* that babies and adults identify with their own race better than others, I haven't seen a study in which they concluded that people felt a *superiority* of their own face. I'll look at what you posted, but your last statement doesn't make sense to me. How does one "unconciously prove superiority"? You can't prove superiority because racial superiority doesn't actually exist.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If it's a theory, it's not proven. Otherwise, it wouldn't be a theory, it would be a fact. Okay, I might have worded it wrong. It's proven in the paper's I've mentioned. I've seen studies that *suggested* that babies and adults identify with their own race better than others. I've seen studies like that too, that's true. I haven't seen a study in which they concluded that people felt a *superiority* of their own face. I'll look at what you posted, but your last statement doesn't make sense to me. How does one

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How does one "unconciously prove superiority"? You can't prove superiority because racial superiority doesn't actually exist. I wrote unconciously, because you are not aware that you are thinking up these reasons, you just do. I do agree that racial superiority does not exist.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Something went wrong because my post was too long, and I forgot to add one thing. I haven't seen a study in which they concluded that people felt a *superiority* of their own face. Look, you're not getting the point of what I mean. First of all, it's not that there is actually a superiority. You're making up reasons why the group you belong to is better than the other one, for example, ALL the supporters of the opposing team are agressive and mean, the supporters of my team are nice people. You are thinking of reasons why the group you belong to would be the better one. Thus, why it's superior. I think this has something to do with cognitive dissonance, I'm not sure.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'd like to add that I did not word it wrong. When talking about scientific theory's, it's actually proven.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm sorry, I thought your comment was a reply to mine.
