Is that a direct quote? What about that time in goblet of fire where he didn't believe that Harry didn't put his name in the cup. He thought he was doing it for the attention, got jealous, and didn't speak to him for ages.

yeah, he's pretty scummy sometimes. But he gets over it. He still sticks up for Harry. It never struck me that Ron was a bad friend, just immature in general. He's also constantly living in Harry's shadow. Also, any well-written character has flaws. Sam Gamgee is an awesome best friend and he seriously considers leaving Frodo to fend for himself so that he could stay with his pet pony.
