+469 Its annoying when people say "I'm so bipolar!'' or ''I have OCD'' when they probably don't even know what they are, amirite?

It's almost insulting to the people who DO have OCD or actually ARE bipolar.

I am actually bi-polar and have minor OCD...I know what they are, believe me.

Or, the whole Short Attention Span = ADD thing.

"OMG. Like, I was soooooo happy ten minutes ago, and now I'm all blaaaah. I must be bipolar, guys!" No. You're a teenager.

I had my therapist say I'm borderline during therapy. Also developed some agoraphobia along the way. From the moment he told me what I had I cursed my days, knowing that no one will ever take me seriously for it thanks to the 15-year-old girls claiming to be borderline cause they heard it in a placebo song...

I have diagnosed OCD and ADHD It's a good mixture And it pisses me off to hear someone say "I go to the bathroom and flush the toilet TWICE I must have OCD" Because they make it seem like a little thing And not something that has ruined many people But oh well what else can you do but these little rants

Ive never been diagnosed with OCD but I have a minor case of it. Nothing serious, it really only shows up when im cleaning or trying to organize something. If its not done right it bothers me until i go and fix it.

I don't know if that's really OCD, I think you're just being anal. OCD is when you think something bad is going to happen to you or someone you love unless you do something specific i.e flip the light switch three times

by Anonymous 13 years ago

it doesn't mean you think something bad is gonna happen I've been diagnosed with OCD and was really bad when I was little and that's not how I've ever felt

Thats not what it always is. My sister has extreme OCD so i actually do know what im talking about. She is really anal about a ton of things as a part of her OCD. I also studied it in my intro to psych class. There are a lot of ways you can show you have OCD, for instance I have to check the door like 3 times before I go to bed to make sure its locked even if Im aware that I was the one who locked it.

I was just saying that extreme cleaning doesn't necessarily mean you have OCD because I am like that with cleaning but otherwise I am completely normal and have no other OCD tendencies. but what you are saying about having to check the door three times before bed even though you already locked it sounds very OCD. Having irrational thoughts about something happening like the door unlocking itself are typically signs of OCD. Just like some people, i.e my mom, think that people they love are going to die if they don't do something a certain number of times. maybe I didn't phrase my original comment exactly right but essential it's just having irrational thoughts even though you know what you're thinking is impossible or crazy and trying to do something to counter that thought.

They way my psych professor described it made it out like if you have to do something a certain way everytime and if it eats at you if you dont, then its an OCD tendency. Like, when i put away clothes in both my closet and dressers, the shirts have to be color coordinated by sleeve length and by the style of the shirt. I literally cant do it any other way, Ive tried and eventually just had to dump all my drawers and start over. I only do a couple things like the lock thing, like i have to check behind the shower curtain everytime i go to the bathroom, which is generally why i just leave it open haha. Or if my closet door is open just a crack i have to open it and peer inside, even if i clearly remember being the one to open it.

My mom has serious OCD (likely because her mom died when she was only nine) and my dad, brother and grandfather have diagnosed bipolar. Seeing as the tendency to become obsessive compulsive and bi polar is hereditary, I have a decent chance of having a manic episode sometime during my life and being diagnosed with something. I definitely don't use those words to describe myself in casual conversation though and it annoys me when people do.

i hate it when people are like "I'm depressed, I have ADHD, in bipolar." no, they don't know the half of it T_T having all 3 PLUS PMDD isn't fun. they say it like it's a good thing, like it's fun. it's not.

I'm pretty sure I have OCD. And I know what a lot of disorders are because I'm interested in them. I was actually told by a friend who is bi-polar that I probably was, too. The only reason why I never or probably will go to the doctor about my severe "OCD tendencies" is because my mother said she doesn't want me taking "drugs". Despite the fact that it really screws me over mentally and I suffer a lot.

You can treat it without medication. If you think you have these diseases GO TO A DOCTOR. Tell them you're not comfortable with meds and they'll find a way to treat you. You'll feel so much better.

Bi polar I think most people are that at times. I have a buddy who thinks he has post traumatic syndrome from his mother yelling at him. Jeesh he thinks all his problems are caused by others. Unless you go get a real diagnosis you can't just say you have the ailment of the month.
