+228 the government would be able to pay our debt to china if they would legalize, regulate, and tax marijuana, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, they didn't. Guess you'll have to deal with it for a few more years.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Along with selling the Post Office. It's worthless anyway

The legalization, regulation, and taxation of marijuana would generate money, but it would not even come close to paying off our debt to China. 500+ economists collaborated to estimate an annual income of $6.2 billion on the potential taxation of marijuana. The United States owes China approximately $843 billion. So, assuming our debt doesn't grow further (which it will), it would take ~139 years of marijuana taxation to pay off China.

It would give it a start. But definitely not even close.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's what I was gonna say. >_> Legalizing marijuana is hardly an incredible solution.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

whoa 843 billion!?!?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yup. That figure comes from the U.S Treasury Department. And, actually, we owe Japan even more money.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Right, and we can solve the lack of jobs problem by hiring more cops when crime shoots through the roof cuz of drug addicts

by Anonymous 13 years ago

lolwut. How would the legalization of marijuana cause an increase in crime? It's nearly impossible to become addicted, anyway.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah, but anyone who knows the business of marijuana will want it kept illegal so that they can make tax free profits and users won't want to pay higher prices than the standard street rate.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The only reason marijuana is "expensive" on the street is because it is illegal. Legalization would make prices drop.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, legalize it anyways, pay off debts, make potheads happy and get some companies rich.

and we could use hemp fibers to make paper, saving forests and trees and such. it would definitely boost the farming economy.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They can make fuel out of it too, so we dont have to drain the earth of its fossil fuels (and stop having fucking wars over it) as hemp is a renewable source

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(DanielJames) you must want the U.S.A to fall ?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Would anyone believe me if I said I dealt weed but didnht smoke?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yea

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If marijuana was legalize reconlationally just like alcohol and tobacco, people would come to the country from far and wide to get legal bud and be able to go to a shop and smoke it just like in Amsterdam, but A WHOLE COUNTRY THE GOVERNMENT WOULD BE MAKING BANK!
