Americans: Your favorite type of food isn't American, amirite?

Honestly, what IS American food? It seems like the only thing that we can do is Americanize the food of other countries. The only thing I can think of that we came up with is the corndog, and franks were made in Germany so even that isn't our own idea.

Meh, there's plenty of food that's American... anything referred to as "soul food", and a great deal of what we call Mexican food is really Native American. Pizza, the way we eat it here, is American; it's different in Italy.

Well in that case, spaghetti isn't authentic Italian food. It was taken from the Chinese and made into a different version. Same thing, really.

No, that's not what I said at all... how exactly did the Native Americans "take" anything from Mexicans when they were here first? And where, pray tell, did we steal soul food from? Only one thing I mentioned supports your comment. I was referring to the way some food types have misnomers.
