+204 You would think that obese people would build more muscle when they walk, because they have more weight to haul, amirite?

They don't walk as much, though. Therein lies the problem. But, yes, you're correct, if you're say, 40kg overweight, you lose weight quicker than someone 20kg overweight.

It's true. The more you weigh, the more calories you burn for the same effort.

I thought it was opposite?

(GiggityGoo22):Think of it this way. It's not really the same effort. The more heavy you are, the harder it is to excercise. The machines at my gym make you put in your weight if you want to know how many calories you're burning. Over the months, as I get thinner, I've been burning fewer calories, even though my workout has almost doubled in intensity.

Oh okay thanks.

They do. Overweight people tend to be pretty strong!

They do. When you gain weight, you gain about 1 pound of lean mass (muscle, bone) for every 4-6 pounds of fat mass.
