+292 I am a muslim girl and i wear the hijab. this is my choice, my own free will. but, FOX news told you differently, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not your free will, chances are your parents are forcing you to.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

no, it was completely my choice. i decided to wear it and i stand by my decision

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I have a ton of Muslim friends. Some wear a hijab, some do not. It isn't oppression at all, and they aren't being forced into it. Whatsoever.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Eh. They focus more on the burka.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't even understand how covering your hair shows modesty. Please, the burka is modest cause you're completely covered, what's covering your hair going to do? If you choose to hoe around, then a hijab isn't going to stop you or keep you more modest. You could still flaunt the goods.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hijab is not just about covering the hair, or even “hair especially.” Hijab is like a code of conduct involving what a Muslim woman wears, and the way in which she behaves. It includes covering everything of her body, except the hands and face

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That sucks, and your peoples' girls are most definitely oppressed whether you want to believe it or not.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I love Hijabs, I think they're cute :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hijab didn't come along in Islam, it's been there since the dawn of time. It's true that there are Muslim women that are forced to wear it but it doesn't mean that they all are, it's their choice and it should be respected, for whatever reason they wear it, they're free to do so.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah i agree, fox news is more like a conspiracy session than the news

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I completely agree with you. The only thing I hate is that MSNBC is equally as biased toward the left, but everyone just ignores that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I am an Egyptologist an have lived in for two years, I know muslims. I'm pretty sure your forced to.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's not true. Don't say "I know muslims" like we're some sort of species you study under a microscopes. The truth is there are all sorts of people anywhere in the world. Sure, there are Muslim girls forced to wear the hijab. It doesn't mean its right. It doesn't mean Islam supports it. It doesn't mean all Muslims do. It does happen. I personally have a friend whose mother is forcing her to wear a niqab. But I also have friends who chose to wear hijabs because they love it, and I have friends who wear hijabs but are complete sluts in reality, and I have friends who don't wear the hijab but are decent and quite religious people, and Egypt /is/ a pretty free country, officially speaking, as the contradictory person below me states. Don't stereotype us. Oh, and just for the record, I am a non-veiled sixteen year old Egyptian Muslim girl, and I've lived in Egypt my entire life, and still do.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Lmao Lies. An Egyptologist? That's just Egyptians you dumbass. There are other Muslims.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

We're not forced to! In Egypt, people are pretty much free to do whatever the hell they want. Sure, we have the uptight portion of the population, but I'm an 18 year old girl. I'm not veiled, I go to parties, I wear super short clothes and drink. And I'm a muslim. Sure it's against eveyrthing I stand for, but it does prove that we are *not* a bunch of prunes. There's something called freedom of choice, and sure some people force their young to wear hijab. But these are the poor, uneducated people. Believe it or not, we live a life simillar to yours.

(Anonymous):Why do you wear it?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're not helping your image.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And we are most defiantly not oppressed.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Come on! Seriously? If you wanted to show you have freedom of choice you would come up with an 'anti-hijab' just to show support for all the women that are forced to wear it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I see muslim girls at my school all the time (community college) and I am often impressed with their fashion choices. Although they do wear the hijab, they still have a good degree of expression. Some of the long skirts they wear or really pretty and glam-like sparkly and stuff, and they usually have a matching hijab. I think its pretty neat.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wow I understand why the OP is so pissed off at all of you, none of you seem to understand that she WANTS to wear it, you have this stereotype that all muslim women are FORCED to wear a hijab and that they have no choice in the matter. I understand 100% what the OP is saying.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

um excuse me, read my comment above. kthanks.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We don't have anti hijab campaigns because some people simply *want* to be veiled. I mean it's the same as homosexuality. Some think it's a disease and there are anti gay rallies all over the world. But it's freedom of choice. I want to be veiled, or I don't want. Simple as that. To each his own. We are a highly educated country, and it's very offending that you think we're some sort of cult who forces people into doing something they don't want to do. I choose not to wear hijab, and no one really opposes that decision at all. We have clubs, bars, pubs but we also have mosques and people choose what life style they'd rather live. I think it's sad people stereo type us, and as I said, to each his own.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why do you have pubs and bars? It's against your religion to drink.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You are right but people do it anyway, just like it's against Christianity to have sex before marriage...but people do it anyway.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And my heart goes out to people who are forced to wear it, because frankly it's unethical and sad. And like I said, only the poor and uneducated force their kids to wear hijab.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It is against it, but there are people of other religions living here, plus the muslims who drink regardless of what it right or wrong. So it all comes to down to personal beliefs.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I love how everyone has completely missed the point and digressed to rather telling the poster who she is and what she believes in. I think she would know...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i was in a wreck involving myself being flipped in a mustang and totaling it. instead of saying everyone came out alive and no permanent injuries they said the four of us were under the influence of alcohol and drugs and that's what wreckless teenagers deserve. in reality we were getting rides home from school.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't doubt you when you say you want to wear it, but I think it's clear that the real issue here is that you've been completely brainwashed by your religion.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hijab isn't a symbol of modesty, it has nothing to do with modesty. Actually, it's all about making yourself more valuable, so that muslim girls won't go around dressing completely revealing and being called bitches or looked at like some piece of meat, it's for their own self-respect, that's what Islam is all about. And yea, some girls aren't able to take that step of covering up all their bodies except for their face & hands and some girls are forced into it by their uneducated parents who don't get what Islam is all about, yet some actually alot of girls choose it as not just a way of dressing it's more as a way of life. As Islam isn't a religion of oppression. And if you live with Muslims for some time, you'll realize that they're pretty different than what they show you on your news channels. Of course there're some extremists, just like anyother religion, even Christianity has extremists and they are denounced by Islam.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

there is no compulsion in the religion of islam. they cannot force someone to believe or do an act of worship, which is in this case hjab. but with that being said you must realize that there are people who straight up don't follow their religion correctly, or make innovations. therefore you cannot judge the religion based on imperfect followers for there are ignorant people in every religion. point being, hijab is something that Is a choice. inebitabley, there will be people who do not understand this and force women to wear hijab. but bottom line is that the religion itself DOES NOT force women into wearing hijab. Islam is perfect, Muslims are not
