The voters have decided that Friday_Night_Lights is wrong! Vote on the post to say if you agree or disagree.

If you YYA, youre in denial. I highly doubt, can't say it's impossible, to live a life without regret. There is something you'll look at ten years from now and think, 'hmmm I wish I would have done That differently'.

Nope. Anything that you change will have an effect on you, no matter how small or how big. Every mistake is a learning opportunity, and it only makes you better.

I don't dissagree with that way of looking at it at all. And although you'll learn something from it doesn't mean you won't regret it.

@Friday_Night_Lights Again, all that it can do is make you a better person, so why regret it?

What if you accidentally shot your best friend..
Would you not regret that? Would that make you a better person?

@Annabel What if you accidentally shot your best friend.. Would you not regret that? Would that make you a better person?

Regret still wouldn't change the fact that you shot your friend. There are other things that you should feel that would mean more.

I'd feel guilt, but since it was an accident, then I couldn't really regret it because I had absolutely no over it. It's like regretting that you accidentally fell down the stairs. Doesn't really make sense.

I understand the whole learning from your mistakes...and how much effect they can have on your life, but I can still regret something that I did. If I hurt someone else or something, yeah I will regret it.

Realistically, everyone should be saying yeah you are. Regret is a waste, it changes nothing. Further more, you can't say you would change something if you had the opportunity to do it differently. Every single choice you make, no matter how insignificant, determines who you are as a person today. If you change one thing, it changes everything. Take those experiences you regret, and decide to learn from them instead. You can find out some valuable things about yourself.

...a lesson. Regret is unnecessary baggage that creates bitterness, and self hate. Living life with no regrets is entirely possible. Me, and so many others are living proof

I'm 18 and have no license, I could have had it on my 16th birthday, but I failed my learners exam by 2 points. Everyday, I wish dearly that I could have it right now, but I don't regret failing my learners, because in the end I think of all the negative possibilities that could have happened if I got my license at 16, on account of eye issues, and a.d.d (not being able to focus on more than one thing --driving comes into place with that thought). I live by the thought that everything happens for a reason, and living by that has made me see it's true meaning. If everything happens for a reason, then there is no reason to regret anything if every mistake had purpose. Try it one day, look at a mistake you made, or a mistake someone else made, and try connecting it to something else positive in your life, or in their life. It's entirely possible to live regret free if you see your mistakes; even the ones that may have ended someone else's life, as a sign that something greater, such as...

I was actually going to point out that everything happens for a reason. I believe in it deeply, sometimes its just hard to find that reason. But God has a plan, we may wish it would have gone some other way but he always has his reasons. Regretting something you've done will never change it, that's just how things were meant to be.

I live by it every day, and now I'm happier than ever, I've discovered my best friend through it, and I know where I'll succeed to the fullest because of it. It's amazing to know that even the worst of situations have meaning. And like you said, it may take years to see the meaning. People have to learn to accept that mistakes happen for a reason, only then will they find true happiness.

Sometimes the worst of situations even have the strongest meaning, which is often why they're the hardest to see. I've made mistakes in my life that were,I'll admit, incredibly stupid. Do i wish I hadn't? No, because they caused me to mature quickly and made me into the person I am today and I am a stronger person because of them. I think if more people could see that and live the way you do, then everyone could be happier. Living in regret only stops you from moving forward.

@LOL WUT?

talking about how regret is silly and pointless, and that living knowing that even the mistakes that change lives, happen for a reason.

llavaheadds avatar llavaheadd Yeah You Are 0Reply
@But why'd you post it like 3 times? haha

if you're talking about the duplicates, it's because most of them we're posted from my phone, and sometimes I think it doesn't send, but it does.. So I end up posting more. Otherwise, what I'm saying is just scattered out amongst other comments

llavaheadds avatar llavaheadd Yeah You Are +1Reply

Also, if you do look back upon your past and do find regrets, then you will just get stuck in the past. You must let those regrets go, or simply never regret anything.

@755833

You're talking about yourself...right?

I'm not sure who said it, but there's a quote that says "never regret anything because at that very second is was exactly what you wanted" sometimes you do regret stuff, but in the end, what happened is done, so its a waste to be upset about something that can never change, you know? I'm not saying we DON'T regret, i'm saying we shouldn't/

The whole point of regret is that you don't want to make the same mistake again. That's the learning process, and yes it's good for you. but you can't actually learn your lessons in life without at least some regret. You can pretend to live with no regrets, but we all have them.

I disagree. I know people who repress emotions, and hide who they are because of regret. I agree that you should learn from your mistakes, but regret holds people back. Regret is silly

well, if this was true, everyone would be heartless. here are a couple things that many might regret. the one i regret, that really happened to me, is number 1.
1.getting pregnant at 13, even if it's by rape
2.killing someone
3.burning down a building
4.cheating on someone
5.attempting suicide
6.abortion

I'm really sorry you went through that. It must have been very difficult to move past :( I regret having crippling anxiety disorders, but I will never want to forget what I learned.

You can regret something and still learn from it. You regret that it happened (and your best friend is dead or whatever), but you learn from it at the same time. (you learn not to wave loaded guns around)

No... that's incredibly stupid... stupid post... stupid OP...

Why do you regret them though, instead of taking a good look at what happens and trying to learn from them.

@Linds Why do you regret them though, instead of taking a good look at what happens and trying to learn from them.

I could regret driving down a road in a normally good neighborhood to get somewhere I needed to be and getting shot. What do I learn from this experience? Not to drive this road again? Not to go to the place I need to be? Some things happen that are beyond our control, and that don't teach us anything. (Note: this was a hypothetical situation).

@SEXY_BEAST I could regret driving down a road in a normally good neighborhood to get somewhere I needed to be and getting...

once again, thats something you really dont have control over. So you drove down a road you needed to to get somewhere, why regret that? I believe everything happens for a reason. (I'm glad you didnt actually get shot haha)

Lindss avatar Linds Yeah You Are +2Reply
@SEXY_BEAST I would regret driving down the road because I got shot...

I think if i got shot the last thing i would be feeling was regret.

Lindss avatar Linds Yeah You Are 0Reply
@Linds I think if i got shot the last thing i would be feeling was regret.

So, after you got shot, and had mostly recovered, but still had some pains, and had experienced the inconvenience of staying in the hospital and the horror of all that, you're telling me that you wouldn't regret having driven down that road, and would do the same thing if given the choice?

@SEXY_BEAST So, after you got shot, and had mostly recovered, but still had some pains, and had experienced the inconvenience...

No i wouldnt regret it, I'd be pissed, thats what i would be feeling. Anger, not regret. And yes i would make the same choice, I would never change a decision I have made because every choice led to the person I am today. Its like on The Butterfly Effect, every little thing he changed caused the entire outcome of his life and those around him to be different. Thats what I believe, that if you change one thing, you change everything, so no i would not regret it.

Lindss avatar Linds Yeah You Are +2Reply
@SEXY_BEAST I would regret driving down the road because I got shot...

You can only regret choices. If you had a choice between driving down that road or another road, then you COULD regret driving down the one that got you shot. Otherwise it won't really make sense to regret it, because you possibly could not have done anything to prevent it. Regret would be the wrong word to use in that situation.

If you never regret anything, you'll never learn from your mistakes.
