But that little sub-plot is funny and helps to move the story along. Technically, it's not called How Lily and Marshall Get Married and Try To Have Kids and Not Become Part of Corporate America either, or How Robin Became a Real News Anchor, but without all that background stuff, the show would be just plain boring and probably end in the first season because nothing else would happen.
