+291 People shouldn't assume that just because someone has a lot of stuff, that makes them a "rich, spoiled brat." Sorry my parents work hard so my family can be fortunate? amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It makes them rich but not necessarily spoiled brat.

"Sorry my parents work hard so my family can be fortunate?" - There are many hard-working people that do not make a lot of money. You are generalising. Which is ironic because you don't like people generalising that all rich people are spoiled...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I agree with the first part but the last sentence makes you sound like a rich and/or spoiled brat.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

But it's true

by Anonymous 11 years ago

So someone doing manual labor doesn't work as hard as a sports psychologist?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The OP never said those less fortunate don't work hard...just that those that are fortunate do

by Anonymous 11 years ago

How I see it is that if a wealthy family, family a, works hard, then by default, poorer family b doesn't work hard.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Thats your own misguided opinion then. He never said that and neither did I. He was simply trying to make a point that there should be no penalty for success

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I stand by my opinion that the last sentence sounds bratty.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

But the thing is...it's your parents who are working hard, not you. Of course not all rich people are snobs, but it doesn't matter how hard your parents work if you bitch about //only// having 348 iPhones. It's wonderful that your parents got to the situation you're in now, but if you're stuck up and unappreciative of your parents' hard work, then yes, you are a rich spoiled brat.

*swoops in* That last sentence is not a question! My job here is done! *flies way*

Oh the cynicism.

There's this one kid in my school that continually makes fun of me for being spoiled because he assumes this by looking at the size of my house. He also assumes this because I seem to be wearing expensive clothing all the time. When, in reality, my entire outfit is probably worth what he paid for one shirt. Just because some people have more money doesn't mean they recklessly spend it.

OK I grew up in a very large house that is right up the road from my now very small place , I also have good manners and education. My family wasn't rich, everything our parents got for us came from saving coins just for it. Now people look at me funny if they know my history but see me shopping at the salvation army. My family was frugal and that is how we looked wealthy, both parents are gone now the house was sold to lawyers when mom moved to florida, so it still looks very big and nice but I am seriously not even comfortably well off. But I have all I need by saving, scrimping and not wasting what I do have. .

I admit, I come from a pretty wealthy family. But the thing is, we don't go out buying big expensive gadgets and whatnot. We spend it only on what we NEED. It just annoys me have some people at my school assume my dad (who I live with) doesn't deserve the money he gets. Which in fact he DOES deserve it. He's been teacher of the year 3 times, worked in the education field for over 30 years, dramatically changed the finances in our old broken down school, NEVER. MISSED. A. DAY. OF. WORK. IN. HIS. LIFE. Even when he's on the toliet throwing up he still goes to work. I don't think the OP meant to come off as they were saying poor people don't work as hard, but it's just that they worked for it and it didn't just magically come out of their ass.

... Your dad is a teacher and you're wealthy?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

He was a teacher for 10 years, a principle for another 10-15, and inbetween a vice principle, super intendent, teacher's aid, head of the educational office at my old school, etc. Pretty much everything in the educational field you can imagine. Lol. My mom has also been a doctor. She doesn't live with me anymore though.

Oh Carshay. Your father is a teacher and people think you are rich. Don't they know teachers don't make much. So if you appear wealthy to others they are jerks or your family is spending what ythey have the right way.

by Anonymous 7 years ago

It's not the fact that your parents work hard or not. It's the fact that you have a lot of stuff, making it seem like you get everything you want. (like a spoiled brat)

by Anonymous 11 years ago

My parents work hard but I don't get whatever I want like you seem to be implying. And yes, that's what nearly everyone before me has said.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The last sentence irks me, because my parents work very hard and we still do not have a lot. The last sentence is VERY bratty, from the "sorry" to the "my parents work hard" as if others do not.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Brat is a kid who gets things from parents and thinks they deserve it all.
