There's an episode in Kino's Journeys about a country where they managed mind-reading. It was rather heartbreaking. Basically, the smallest of bad thoughts you had about someone were going to be heard by them, which caused more bad thoughts, etc. In the end, no one could stand each other anymore and avoided meeting another human being. It was rather sad =(
