It's not pronounced "meer," it's pronounced "mirror", amirite?

Technically, in certain dialects/accents, it is pronounced "meer". Besides, how often do you hear people say "mir-or"?

"Technically" an accent or dialect doesn't make an incorrectly pronounced word right. It is the case with some words or their speech overall, but with a word like "mirror" there is no accent or dialect that makes "meer" correct. Someone else even admitted that it's wrong even though they say it that way. I'd rather that than you try to justify and defend that it's correct.

I'm from Arkansas, And The majority of us say meer.. Though I do know some people who say meerur. Thats just like how most of us don't say wash, we say warsh. or winder. tornada. So on and so forth..

I'm from Georgia, and we say "meer" too. It's just the accent/ dialect. I don't know anyone who says "mir-or."

Saying "mirror" is like saying "rural" It's easier to just drop the R.

And that's just plain lazy. It's "easier" to say it wrong. Good job. Just like I hate when ppl say "O" for zero. And cut corners just bc something is "easier" instead of doing it correctly. It's what's wrong with America.

although I try not to say meer I usually do, but I'm from tennesse and most people either say it "meerur" or the ghetto people say "mur"

Whenever I hear someone say "meer" or something like that on the tv (it's usually Americans) I get so mad. It's MIR-ROR. I don't think it's too hard to pronounce! I get that the way they say it may be part of their accent but seriously. K I've had my rant now.

I have a hard time pronouncing "r" a lot of the time. Like any word with an "r" in it, I usually mispronunce. Mirror included. Naturally, there's an "r" in my name.

Mirror is a two syllable word. Why err and make it a one syllable word? I told a friend from Canada that and he argued that it is a one syllable word. Can you get more stupid than that? I thought that hey spoke the Queen's English there.

I love the people that defend the correct pronunciation of mir-ror and I absolutely hate the people who try to rationalize and justify that the accent makes a wrong pronunciation correct. Yes, some words sound different because of an accent. But with a word like mirror, "meer" is just plain wrong. Not bc of an accent. Bc I have also heard ppl without an accent say it that way. So not even is it a bad excuse, it's just plain wrong. Blows my mind how ignorant some ppl are. Oh and I do love the person the most who actually realizes and admits that they say it wrong, and doesn't make an excuse for it. Love that, kudos to you.
