That's because it's red. Light that shine through your eyelids ends up red becaus of the capillaries. Only in complete absence if light is it black, except for the rainbow lights you see. Total absence of light is the definition of black. If it doesn't seem black to you, it still is, but you think of black wrongly. Maybe you're used to black things appearing reddish so true black seems like blue.
