+515 While legitimately and legit mean the same thing, they're on opposite ends of the "Spectrum of Classy Words", amirite?

because legit has lost its meaning. so now i sound weird when i use it the right way...

It's not a real word. If you want to use it the "right way", you should say "legitimate" (which is one of the best words in the English language).

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/legit People just decided to use it as a slang term. Though, I've never heard of "legit" until I realized my computer didn't spellcheck it.

Yeah, it's considered informal.

I hate it when people use it wrong or say "Legitly"

"Legit" also sounds too abrupt. "Legitimately" flows better. "I legit ate popcorn last night." "I legitimately ate popcorn last night."

Legit = the short form of legitimate, but scene kids have ruined the meaning of legit now.
