+361 Concerning time travel: if you kill your future self it's considered murder. If your future self kills you it's suicide, amirite?

yes, you are right

Awesome idea.... :)

This made me think of "concerning hobbits..."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't think my mind works very well concerning time travel stuff. I always get confused

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The first part works of the post, but the second part doesn't. If you kill you're past self, then you already have killed yourself, so you never live to the point in time in which you can kill yourself...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But then if you don't live to kill yourself then you'll live to kill yourself....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But with the loop the time travel will create, the only way for you to live is to not kill your past self when you become your future self. :l

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The loop would only exist every other turn. You kill yourself then you disappear from the future, then you won't kill yourself so you live to the future.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The loop ends with your end, it's not like you'd be reincarnated... Right?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No... but there's obviously multiple you during different times. If you grow old and you kill your younger self, then your younger self won't grow old to kill your younger self. So the younger self will grow old to kill your younger self. Get it?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That makes sense. I was functioning on the assumption that killing your younger self would in turn kill your older self.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It will kill your older self. But by killing your younger self, that means the younger you won't grow old to kill your even younger you

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So basically, there's a loop in which there's two potential realities that exist at the same, limited time?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha, I'm not sure if I understand that... explain it to me again, so I can give you a clear answer of what the logical thing I would think would happen.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In the span of time from whenever the younger self would be killed to whenever what potential effects of their lives could've had end, there is two potential realities at the same time that, as you said earlier, alternate. It's like a loop that has two paths that connect at the beginning in the end.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ahh it's sooo confusing, but I think I do get it. Yes, is the answer? If time travel exists in the way op is describing it, then there should be a different person for each instant time. So as you're going through your life, there's another you going either a second later or before you. Always at a different time.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If you're even doing the same thing at all, yes. The funny thing is, though, if time travel will ever exist, it already has. :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, so unless it's highly monitored and won't let anyone find out about it's existence, then it probably won't ever be created

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I guess so. All the theories I've heard on time travel would fail anyway, especially when it comes to going back in time.

French toast.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Start the frenchtoast up :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No. It's still suicide. You just killed yourself in ANOTHER time. That means you killed yourself in the future. It's still suicide.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thank you, realdizzy, for making me think today.

Our futer self this is what he was talking about http://www.amirite.net/145949

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Technically that's impossible. If you go back in time then you've already gone back. For example, if the you of the ten year future goes back ten years... Then he's here right now. And it would be impossible for him to kill you. Because it's already been done in HIS past, our present. So if he succeeds (which he can't) then the present you dies, meaning there is no future you. So he obviously fails. You can, however kill your future self.
