I just had a test on that!

Just like I don't know why I have to swing in those ropes that hang from the ceiling in Gym Class.

There's starting to be so many posts about stuff you learn in school and how we can't apply it to real life... A lot of the stuff you're taught (at least in college) isn't expected to be memorized 100%. It's meant to increase your problem solving skills and make you think more rational when you come across an everyday problem.

I don't mind that we'll never use them, they're fun:)

I thought I was the only one who thought that! :D

"YOU FIND THE ROOTS OF THIS QUADRATIC EQUATION USING COMPLETING THE SQUARE OR I WILL DECAPITATE YOU!"

Once you get past the basics, maths isn't about real life.

I think they use it in engineering...? I'm just guessing, though, because I know they use imaginary numbers in engineering. I'm sure there's probably some obscure kind of physics or something that uses it... What I always wonder is, how did people come up with the formula? It seems so random, with all the multiplication, division, squares, square roots, and then random numbers... How did they *know*?

Stats is the only math class where I feel like I will use it in my everyday life, but that's probably because I'm going into a job involving statistics. :)

news flash: going to school and math class is everyday life.

A quadratic function dedines the height of a projectile as a function of time, so, if you solve it you can tell when it left the ground and when it hit the ground again

If you become a math-teacher it would probably be quite convenient to know.
