Just because it didn't work out doesn't mean it wasn't love, amirite?

That may be true, but apparently love wasn't enough for at least one person.

In the anime Nana, Two people loved each other, but couldn't be with each other because the girl got pregnant before they were dating and found out while they were dating and went to her ex because he was richer, could support the baby, and didn't want to have the guy she loved throw away his dream to support her and her baby. Their love didn't work out, but it was really there.

Wow that was long.

Probably because most languages have lots of different words for love, some meaning unconditional love, some meaning infatuation, some meaning interest etc, which all get translated into one word in English. Compare "love your neighbor as yourself," "I love golf," and "I love that guy!" and they're all different. Thus the statement is simultaneously true and false.
