+527 How bout we cut the salaries of some of these greedy-ass politicians and give it to the soldiers who acctually deserve it, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We should also cut the salaries of professional sports teams, then we can give the money to deserving people like doctors who are trying to cure illnesses, not shoot a ball in a hoop for $40 million per year.

The government pays neither doctors nor athletes, so that really would be great, but the government can't do anything.

There are hundreds fo thousands of soldiers and only a few hundred politicians. How would that work exactly?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

politicians make bank while many soldiers barely make enough to survive when they get home

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I understand that, but you didn't answer my question. How exactly would your proposal work?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why would anyone disagree to this?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's highly impractical

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Impractical, yes, but it is deserved on both ends.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Deserved? How would you decide who deserves what?

Congressmen and other government officials make huge amounts of money and quite a few don't even pay the taxes they institute. The soldiers are risking their lives day in and day out and get paid less than the politicians.

Have you ever considered that maybe the government officials actually work for their money? Because you make it sound as if someone just gives it to them and they didn't earn it. Secondly, soldiers are technically employed by the government as well. In the military, people in higher ranks make quite a bit of money as well. Congressmen aren't the only government officials, they're just the most visible ones. Most people employed by the government don't make less than the average American. So when congressmen get paid more, it's really no different than when admirals and generals get paid more than privates. I understand what you're saying and I know that it doesn't seem fair, but I feel like people are short-changing the congressmen here.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I understand that they work hard for their money, and Congressmen should get more than lesser government officials, because their jobs are harder. But I also believe that solders, who risk their lives everyday, deserve much more than the Congressmen, who have cushy immunity to many of the laws that they create.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Once again, I think you're short-changing the congressmen. I don't think it's right to assume that what the congressmen do is easier than what the soldiers do just because the physical conditions are more bearable.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think it is very difficult to compare the difficulty of the two jobs. I'm taking more consideration to the risk in each respective job. Soldiers have much, much more risk in their job, I would take a job as a Congressman. As a solder, no way, way to much risk of death. And I'm going to get into mental effects of being in a war.

I understand your position. But by the same logic, a coal miner should make more than the CEO who keeps the company afloat, a construction worker should make more than an architect, commercial fishermen should make more than college professors, and miners should make more than Nobel Prize winning scientists.

Or, ya know, to the government who has no money. Cut the salaries and give the money to schools and hospitals!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Or at least put the money towards treatment for illnesses like PTSD!

Did anybody else catch that they misspelled "actually" in the post?

Reroute tax dollars from paying government officials to soldiers salaries
