+559 When did "Mexicans" become a derogatory word? amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

When people started using it as one.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

When did that start?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Honestly I have no clue. I just know that when somebody calls me Mexican they are using it in a dregrading way instead of just saying it like a fact.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I've actually never heard anyone call someone a Mexican... unless they were actually Hispanic and they were trying to tell people of their race... even if they aren't Mexican.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But what if someone said it without meaning to be derogaroty way? Like "She is Mexican." That doesn't seem offsensive.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

@834262 (Jacketta): Well I live in Texas and I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I hear stuff all the time like Mexican? I need your papers. Or Mexican you gonna run to your mom she is just down the hall in the janitors closet. Sure some people say it when kidding but honestly most use It as a put-down at least in thie region.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha, ok.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

???

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't know chicken man, I just don't know anymore....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

obtw *¿Còmo? I take it you don't know too much Spanish, eh?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I speak French, but I know some Spanish words, why?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, words, but as you might already have guessed, speaking in a different language isn't just translating word for word. Saying "What?" or "Sorry?" is not què, but còmo.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

When did you say que (with an accent)? Although in French there isn't one!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The accent doesn't matter, I'm saying you used the wrong word in http://www.amirite.net/455550/834013

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I didn't use que, it was the Amish dood.... Thanks for assuring me I'm not the only one having problems confusing people!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

:# It's all amirite's fault...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes! Blame it on the mischievous little amirite dood

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i thought como was how? and que is what

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Como is the word you say when you want something repeated or clarified, however it is used in the sentences that start with How in English, "How are you" and all. You learn something new every day, huh.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If you call any Hispanic person that, that isn't a Mexican, they will be offended. Just like if you call an Asian person who isn't Chinese, Chinese.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I like the Chinese analogy, didn't think of that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So is your op referring to calling a non Mexican Hispanic Mexican or just a random person Mexican?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hispanic refers to someone from Spain, so you just did the same thing as someone saying Mexicans. The right word would be Latinos or Spanish-speakers.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Who colonized Mexico and Central America?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What are you talking about? I didn't say anything about not confusing other people's race.... You just proved my point... I said don't call a Hispanic Mexican and you just told me that Hispanics aren't Mexican.... Anyways a Latino is someone from Latin America, but Hispanic is someone who is from Latin America OR Spain, look it up champ

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Shut yer lib'ral trap, you MEXICAN.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Cool profile picture!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

south park

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's either because people are getting less creative, or just plain lazy.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Or being from Mexico is now considered bad enough?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I wasn't being serious. I was just saying that Mexican is used as derogatory term because people were too lazy to come up with another one.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I can't help but feel that you read my post about Mexican Pokemon and had an anonymous dude get offended about it. I was really starting to wonder about it today..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I didn't, *goes to read WillAkana's posts*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not sure how a language can be stereotype to a certain culture of people but aight...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha i was just thinking the same thing about jews xD

by Anonymous 13 years ago

gringos* y estoy de acuerdo contigo, pero me encabrona que crean que todos los latinos somos mexicanos... acaso no pueden ver mas alla de sus Estados? hay todo un mundo por ver

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yo es stupido.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

estúpido*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm mexican, and i'm proud of it. Some people think that being mexican is he same as being stupid (specially in the United States of America), if you have ever been to Mexico you have noticed that every single person will tryto talk to you in your own language and make you feel at home but when a mexican goes to another country no one will ever try to speak to you in your language.
