This generation? How exactly do you know that the entire generation doesn't read? I, for one, have been reading since I was four. So often that everyone who knew me at school called me Bookworm.
Yeah there's no need to over react. Most things have to be expressed as a generalization since there's no way to refer to everyone as the same. And to be honest, it IS true that younger people read way less. It's not to be so unexpected, but it can also be a little lamented, I reckon.
And how many people also say they hate reading? No need to spaz, there's always going to be exceptions. It's great that you love readin though- an hardly relevant when you started.
We read The Book Thief last year as a class, and our teacher told us to write in it any thoughts that came to our minds. It seemed to provoke a lot of thought in everyone, and I really liked it. Sadly, I think I was one of the few who liked it.. :/
I don't like to watch tv so whenever somebody mentions a tv show or something I will have barely any idea what they are talking about but I could talk forever about books I have read.
Hunger Games is great. Just because it's not in the canon doesn't mean it's not good reading. To get into the canon books have to stand the test of time, and The Hunger Games hasn't been around long enough to do that. I'm not saying that it will, but you don't know what will happen.
There are plenty of good books out there, and plenty of people who read them.
I love to read! I can't read fast enough. According to my Shelfari, I have read close to 165 books (mostly the middle school+ freshman year, seeing as that is when I joined..) But it is sad how many people hate reading.
Big whoop you read The Hunger Games, a series for teens when you were a TEENAGER, try reading something from the canon, something that is actually great.

To Kill a Mockingbird and The Book Thief. READ THEM!

I kind of liked the Book Thief more over all. To Kill a Mockingbird was great, but the first chapter was its own kind of cruel and unusual torture.
When people say that they hate reading I kind of want to punch them in the face.
When people say they have a different opinion then mine i want to punch them in the face.
The world would totally be a better place if everyone had the same exact opinion on everything and the same hobbies.

I read the entire Hunger Games trilogy and the The City Of Ember saga.

I love reading, I just don't have much time for it anymore :-/ My weekends are often filled with reading though.

Yeah... and I hate it when I'm outside or on the bus and I'm reading a book and everyone (mostly my age) is looking at me like I'm some kind of freak.

Just saying but the Hunger Games are great. They're very well written and I know plenty of adults who loved them.
Yeah, ES, many books that are now considered "great" were also considered utter garbage when they were first written.
