+429 If you are secure in your religious beliefs, you shouldn't be upset if someone challenges them, amirite?

Finally a good, well thought out post.

True. And, it goes for anything, really, not just religious beliefs. If you can't handle having your values, morals and opinions challenged, then don't go on the Internet, or even leave your house. And, rather than fly into a blind rage, stop and maybe consider the point of view that's being laid out. Even if it doesn't change your mind, it may at least gives you an idea of common "rebuttals" to your side, so that you can do a bit or research and argue them better in the future.

As logn as they don't get upset when I try to defend my beliefs.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah that's fair.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's true, but I think one can reserve the right to feel a little insulted/irritated if said belief is constantly mocked with some hurtful intent.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

As long as they do so respectfully and //intelligently//. It really bothers me when people have uninformed or over-simplified arguments. This doesn't just go for challenging religion, either.

Why cant we just let people believe what they want to believe and leave them alone and not poke our noses ink other people's business? Faith is a personal thing, si why challenge other's?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's not personal when there is legislation in my country infringing upon my rights based on religious faith.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That doesn't mean you go insulting every faith. I wasn't even talking about that though. I was talking about in general when people debate and insult religion, or insult athiests. Why do they even have to bother?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I was simply saying that once people take their faith out of their homes and churches and into public schools and to their legislators, it is no longer personal.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Exactly. In general i hate when people try to make me choose a side (religious or athiest ) because i want to figure out what i want to believe on my own. Involving a legal system only serves to complicate things.

Mittwitt!

Both religion and god are man-made ideas.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Did man make God or did God make man. It's a question you will never really answer for sure. But kudos on pretending.

Really this goes for anything. If you are secure in your beliefs you should never get upset because someone challenges them. Of course saying "you should never get upset IF someone challenges them" is a little bit post hoc ergo propter hocky, which has led to some of the responses which would otherwise be moot. And shiz.
