I can't chose to believe a religion... I just don't. I wish I believed in something, but I can't. It's not as simple as choosing.
You're making it sound like you were born atheistic. No one's born into believing something...I came to Christ when I was about 14? Yeah. If you wish to believe in something, go to church. It's good for you. :3
That's not what she is saying at all. Some people, including myself, see the whole idea of a deity as literally unbelievable. We are incapable of faith.
The only reason you are incapable of faith is because you don't want to have faith because people hold onto science and worldy things so much. If you actually TRY to believe in Him I'm very sure you'll find Him...
So what, you're an evolutionist?
I know. That's why I was asking
Well, you said you don't believe in a deity, correct? What about the universe creating itself? How do you consider that theory?
The theory isn't plausible, and don't listen to anyone when they say it's proven.
The Lord our God endows us all with the innate ability to realize He exists.
Innate. We all know there is a God. Well, any rational person. Anyone who is an atheist deliberately ignores the God of the Bible.
Wanna know how evert rational person can understand the presence of some deity?
Congratulations on your relationship with Amish_Allisoraus, by the way, Scranton. You guys are so cute together.
Allisoraus? What's that?
Oh you mean Allosaurus! My bad. The misspelling was so utterly terrible I was confused for a second.
We're not in a relationship, though I assume you would want to be, choosing to be gay and all.
Well no. It is innate. Any logical person can see that. But I suppose you're sorta right.
Everything has a cause. Everything we see has causation. Leaves, trees, animals, houses, people, cars, everything has been brought into being By something else. Nothing on this earth sprung into being. Nothing. Nothing can bring about its own existence. That's just illogical.
The universe hasn't existed forever. Now, this was "proven" scientifically in the 1900's, but if you wish ill give you a logical approach to this.
Third, some being, some supernatural force, some transient being capable of flitting through time, some thing unbound by the laws of physics and time, in short, a god, created this world.
Lol. Well now I know you're irrational. Okay, then, counter my argument. Refute it.
No. You can't refute a deity, nor can I supplement one.
Refute my argument.
All you've said is you disagree. That's it, and you can't even devise a decent rebuttal. And yet you insist you're right? Wow.
¿Tú comprendes que hablo? Refute my ARGUMENT. The logic. Not the deity. My argument. Because it's logically sound, in my opinion. Surely you agree with it, right?
I got the Spanish, but you are still saying the same argument again and again. You're just saying it's not the only option. Well, then, refute my argument. If it isn't, then show me where my logic fails!!
I read that. And you have yet to present a decent argument.
Honey. Explain how that is logical. In other words refute my argument.
No. Explain how that would be logical. Refute my argument.
You have no case. You suck at arguing. Step it up or shut up.
Don't listen to scranton, you have a really good argument.
Hmm how am I bigoted, or close-minded. I'll consider the possibility that I'm wrong once you can present a good case.
Present a good case, or accept the truth. Seriously. You're willfully ignorant. And it's impossible to argue with someone so incompetent.
Okay. From Now on I'll use that argument. Do you think my teachers will accept that? "Explain the significance of Bacon's Rebellion." "I don't know, but I'm sure someone does." Full credit!! Terrible argument. You can research.
Okay. Explain why that isn't logical.
Yeah, back to the "Someone can, but I can't!"
Anon is right, your argument is awesome.
scranton is just a close-minded asshole.
Your point of view is very valid and logical. Scrantoncity is just an argumentative person looking for a fight where there need not be one.
Nothings wrong if you won't continue to insist you're right, even if you can't even convince yourself.
You keep insisting there's another option. Okay, then explain how it's logical. Why won't you do that?
Did you even read my argument? Explain hoe another option would be possible.
rationality and faith have no connection whatsoever.
The church has your mind all kinds of fucked up. Rational people know there's a god - HAHAHA! Enhance your vocabulary bc you obvz don't know what rational means
That's. Why. We. Don't. Believe.
It also doesn't work the way you claim it does. It's not meant for some people but not others, it's meant for everyone.
^^^Also the comment made by anon even agrees with me.
Anon: "they just dont WANT to believe"
"there is nothing to prove that it will happen". People fail to understand that science cannot compare to the divinity of God. Look for all the evidence you want, but I swear you won't find any Christian claim to be one because 'they found evidence'. You need to let go of trying to find evidence because science is not perfect, but God is.
Many Christians claim that the Bible or nature is "evidence."
Sure but that's not sufficient to you. But that's not the sole purpose that I believe in Him.
My point is that religion has absolutely zero evidence, it is 1,000% faith-based. Until you can prove the Bible was divinely inspired, it is useless. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
Faith. Does. Not. Require. Evidence.
Faith doesn't require evidence? No wonder it's bullshit...
I guess believing that I will get an A on every test I take is enough for me to get an A on every test I take? No. I have to work for it. Working for it is not faith, thaths reality right there. And reality has evidence. I see none for faith.
That's my point. Religion is solely based on faith, yet people still try to pass off the Bible as evidence.
The Bible is evidence for a faith-based life purpose.
There is no purpose of elves. There is a purpose of God.
Sorry I didn't think you were asking a question.
Wait, so exactly why don't you believe in faith? Explain in a nut shell.
So basically there is no evidence...?
Dude you gotta think about this more. Why would God be in complete control of the universe and just have this crazy thing called science hanging around. Don't you get it? God IS science. It really makes sense that the supernatural and the natural go hand in hand once you put some thought into it.
nope i was definitely disagreeing with you. they dont WANT to believe, so stop trying to make them believe. another day, another christianic nut.
I can say so many things to you right now, but I won't.
say what you were going to say. you cant hurt me. i believe what i believe, and as much as you want me to put everything into something no one even knows exists, i just cant. i call them as i see them.
Because it's disrespectful. God says to love your enemies and that is what I will do. I LOVE YOU.
thats great. but dont make me promise that ill love you, because sorry, thats not what i do. you have to EARN my love and respect. i wont love you because somebody told me i should.
'love' your enemies and kill anyone who doesn't fall for the christ bs. If you're gonna make up a god at least make him better than the normal jealous vengeful person
I don't think you're right. I don't hold onto science and worldly things. I know way less about evolution and the big bang theory, than I know about the Bible. I've gone to church and tried to believe. It's not as simple as that. I just lack faith and I refuse to be forced into believing something that I find implausible.
Who's forcing you? Have you ever prayed? Have you ever opened up to God? Have you ever admit that you are not perfect? Church isn't going to convert you. People don't convert you. They have nothing to do with YOUR relationship with Christ. It's between you and God. So you have to pray to God if you want to find Him. If you don't want to, that's fine. Just don't say you're trying if you've never actually prayed to God himself.
I used to pray, I used to go to church weekly, I used to repent, I used to go to an after-school bible class, I come from a staunch Catholic family; I gave an honest effort to believing, only to find out that I am incapable of faith.
Who did you pray to? Mary? Saints? Or God?
Sincerely, or just because you had to every night? Have you tried it anytime recently? Would you do it right now?
Sincerely. No, I have not. No.
And why not?
I am incapable of faith.
But what will you lose if you just do it?
The second most valuable commodity on Earth: time.
I'm pretty sure 1 minute just before you go to bed is not a waste of time.
60 seconds x 365.25 days x 75 years = 1,643,625 seconds
1,643,625 seconds = 27,393.75 minutes = 456.5625 hours = ~19.02 days.
who says you'll live that long? 0__0 but anyways, after you become a Christian, it won't be a waste of time.
It's the average life expectancy of an American male, so. Bye.
AFTER you become christian?? little previous there.
I grew up in a family very church oriented. I prayed almost everything single day. I even tried to accept God into my heart. Then, I realized that it just wasn't an option for me; I had no faith.
why don't you stop shoving your religion down their throats and telling them that they're wrong? just because they dont believe what you believe doesnt make them bad people. they just dont WANT to believe, and the fact that you feel the need to force it on them only makes them not want to even more.
Ok? I didn't even bring that up. I'm not 'forcing' anyone to believe in anything.
And I think your first sentence is the most used sentence made by non-religious people...it's getting pretty annoying.
You can not be more wrong. Faith to some of us seems so stupid that it's impossible to us.
Believe what you want to believe.
Just shut the fuck up. You have no clue what you're talking about.
Woah woah no need to swear sheesh. I'm not going around telling people 'SHUT THE FUCK UP AND BELIEVE IN GOD'.
No, not directly. You're indirectly saying it, though.
But that's not even why I'm telling you to shut the fuck up. You're talking about topics you're barely educated in (I can tell from what you're posting).
Instead of making assumptions that are accurate to your beliefs, personal rationalities and philosophy, research it.
what exactly did i say to make you angry.
"If you wish to believe in something, go to church." Now what are you saying there? Stop being all holier-than-thou and respect other people's belief systems. It's great that you have something you can whole-heartedly put faith behind. Some of us don't.
Or maybe at a young age we have always been incapable of it? You don't know why. It's not that I don't WANT to believe, I just can't. I've always needed solid proof of things, and a faith hasn't proven to me that it's the way to go. Sometimes you just can't believe.
Well there's your problem right there! You rely on science so much. You gotta stop!
Well there's your problem right there! You rely on faith so much. You gotta stop!
Lol OK. stops
You know what, I don't really believe in God or religion either, but I respect that you're just explaining yourself without actually trying to force people into it. I've just read through this whole conversation and it seems like the ones that are attacking are the ones saying "omgzz stop forcing it down our throats". You're giving them options: if you want to believe, do this or this, etc. You're not saying "DO THIS" and that's good.
Thank you! Nowadays I can't explain to people what I believe without someone accusing me of 'shoving it down their throats'. I'm trying to have you understand what I believe and if you don't want to hear it, oh well!
Why do you say him? What if l want to believe in a goddess?
Oh wait... l can't because of l do, everything else would fall apart. I would have to lose myself to find invisible sky people. I can't do that.
I never said I was born an atheist. I went to church from the time I was born, practically, until I was fourteen. I've been baptized, had my first communion and been confirmed as a Catholic. I also went through a phase at age thirteen where I went to several different places of worship and researched a bunch of religions to find "God." It's not as though I haven't been exposed to religion. It's not as though I haven't tried to believe. I have. I wish I could believe. It sounds beautiful, for the most part. But I simply cannot.
Going to church and doing all that stuff doesn't make you a Christian. Just because you couldn't find Him then, it doesn't mean you should just give up your search. Now, if you still want to find Him you are more than welcome to.
Love, I never claimed to be Christian. I'm not. I was simply stating, I've looked for god in many places. I've learned quite a bit about him and listened to many peoples takes on god. I simply cannot bring myself to believe in it. There's not much I can do about that. It's not as though I haven't tried. I've tried for years. I've tried to force myself to believe. But I simply cannot. I'm not saying I don't believe in anythingI do believe there must be SOMETHING moreI just don't... know what that is. But I don't believe it's a text book god like the one in... well, any "holy" book.
Humans are terribly, beautifully flawed, why should their ideas of god be any different?
I won't care what people tell me. I'll be dead.
Not if choosing a religion means actively practising it, because that way, if the atheists are right, then you're spending your entire life trying to get somewhere which doesn't exist.
By that logic, you should follow every religion.
Pascal's wager is a fool's bet.
Too bad many religions demand that they be the only religion.
I tried the whole Catholic thing, Church, praying, bible study, to age 16ish. After years of trying, I found I don't need the security blanket that is religion. When you die, you die, no sugar coating it with fairy lands of heaven. Plus, I could be a good person all my life, volunteer, give to charity, make a hard worked living, be loving and friendly, minus the obvious human nature flaws of being a bitch sometimes etc, and even through all that, because I don't believe in God, I'd be going to hell if there was one. That is not the type of deity I would want to believe in.
Jesus the comment section lit up like a christmas tree.... you see what I did there?
I don't see the point in forcing myself to beleive something that may or may not be true 'just in case'. Then what if I picked the wrong one? I'd rather not waste the time and effort.
Pascal's Wager. So fucking retarded. This has been disproved so many times...
You clearly don't understand Pascals Wager. Most people don't really understand it. Taking into consideration only the parameters he put, it's actually logical and that type of thinking was advanced for his time. Of course those aren't the only parameters though. That's why it's been disproved. Pascal also only intended the wager as a means of beginning to have faith and not of getting into heaven.
As time passes, more discoveries are made. And I've done a bit of research on Pascal's Wager. More than others, anyways...
What I don't get is why people seem to think Christianity is the only religion. According to the people on this site, you're either an athiest or a christian. If there's a post about religion there's always reference to the bible or Jesus in the comments. It's kind of ignorant to act like these are the only two choices that could be the correct way of thinking. Other religions exist too.
Everyone is aware that there are other religions. Amirite's demographic just does not include very many people that are Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, Taoist, etc.
I was going to say something but the very tasty looking apple covering your face distracted me.
That's my plan. Using my apple, I entrance people...then pickpocket, rape, etc. them.
Nor very many who educate themselves on beliefs or ppl outside their own. When everyone on here is so perfect, why learn about anyone else? :(
I like what god stands for I just don't believe in him, her, or it. I think there are some people out there that just believe in a higher power because they don't want to be screwed over when they die. Those people are only religious and follow the bible for the sole purpose of saving themselves.
choosing a religion to avoid some fate after death is fear, not faith. i for one have just accepted that fear of death is something i must live with.
You dont choose a religion. You follow God or Allah or whatever. I dont think people understand that you DONT follow a religon to escape a punishment.
the way i see it, just do what makes you happy (minus breaking laws and such) and whatever happens, happens. if there's something after death, awesome. if there's not, at least you were happy while you were alive.
I lol'd at this.
And I'm an Atheist.
Except that if you're an atheist you can't force yourself to believe, and a god would be like "lol noob you never believed. get pwned." so it wouldn't really make a difference
I will not follow any religion... religion is for retards and senile people
It takes more faith to believe in the big bang theory than it does God. There is a preacher that has several million dollars in a bank account and he has said that if anyone can prove the big bang theory that they can have it. Many have tried but the money remains in the bank account.
It's called a theory for a reason............
