+257 It's better to choose religion over atheism; even if you're wrong, when you die there will be no one around to say "I told you so", amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

By that logic, you should follow every religion. Pascal's wager is a fool's bet.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Too bad many religions demand that they be the only religion.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I can't chose to believe a religion... I just don't. I wish I believed in something, but I can't. It's not as simple as choosing.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're making it sound like you were born atheistic. No one's born into believing something...I came to Christ when I was about 14? Yeah. If you wish to believe in something, go to church. It's good for you. :3

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's not what she is saying at all. Some people, including myself, see the whole idea of a deity as literally unbelievable. We are incapable of faith.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The only reason you are incapable of faith is because you don't want to have faith because people hold onto science and worldy things so much. If you actually TRY to believe in Him I'm very sure you'll find Him...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

100% agree

by Anonymous 13 years ago

why don't you stop shoving your religion down their throats and telling them that they're wrong? just because they dont believe what you believe doesnt make them bad people. they just dont WANT to believe, and the fact that you feel the need to force it on them only makes them not want to even more.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ok? I didn't even bring that up. I'm not 'forcing' anyone to believe in anything. And I think your first sentence is the most used sentence made by non-religious people...it's getting pretty annoying.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You can not be more wrong. Faith to some of us seems so stupid that it's impossible to us.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Believe what you want to believe.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't think you're right. I don't hold onto science and worldly things. I know way less about evolution and the big bang theory, than I know about the Bible. I've gone to church and tried to believe. It's not as simple as that. I just lack faith and I refuse to be forced into believing something that I find implausible.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Who's forcing you? Have you ever prayed? Have you ever opened up to God? Have you ever admit that you are not perfect? Church isn't going to convert you. People don't convert you. They have nothing to do with YOUR relationship with Christ. It's between you and God. So you have to pray to God if you want to find Him. If you don't want to, that's fine. Just don't say you're trying if you've never actually prayed to God himself.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I used to pray, I used to go to church weekly, I used to repent, I used to go to an after-school bible class, I come from a staunch Catholic family; I gave an honest effort to believing, only to find out that I am incapable of faith.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Who did you pray to? Mary? Saints? Or God?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

God.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Sincerely, or just because you had to every night? Have you tried it anytime recently? Would you do it right now?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Sincerely. No, I have not. No.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And why not?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I am incapable of faith.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But what will you lose if you just do it?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The second most valuable commodity on Earth: time.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm pretty sure 1 minute just before you go to bed is not a waste of time.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

60 seconds x 365.25 days x 75 years = 1,643,625 seconds 1,643,625 seconds = 27,393.75 minutes = 456.5625 hours = ~19.02 days.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

who says you'll live that long? 0__0 but anyways, after you become a Christian, it won't be a waste of time. k bye.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's the average life expectancy of an American male, so. Bye. y

by Anonymous 13 years ago

AFTER you become christian?? little previous there.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I grew up in a family very church oriented. I prayed almost everything single day. I even tried to accept God into my heart. Then, I realized that it just wasn't an option for me; I had no faith.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Just shut the fuck up. You have no clue what you're talking about.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Woah woah no need to swear sheesh. I'm not going around telling people 'SHUT THE FUCK UP AND BELIEVE IN GOD'.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"If you wish to believe in something, go to church." Now what are you saying there? Stop being all holier-than-thou and respect other people's belief systems. It's great that you have something you can whole-heartedly put faith behind. Some of us don't.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

k

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, not directly. You're indirectly saying it, though. But that's not even why I'm telling you to shut the fuck up. You're talking about topics you're barely educated in (I can tell from what you're posting). Instead of making assumptions that are accurate to your beliefs, personal rationalities and philosophy, research it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

what exactly did i say to make you angry.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Or maybe at a young age we have always been incapable of it? You don't know why. It's not that I don't WANT to believe, I just can't. I've always needed solid proof of things, and a faith hasn't proven to me that it's the way to go. Sometimes you just can't believe.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well there's your problem right there! You rely on science so much. You gotta stop!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well there's your problem right there! You rely on faith so much. You gotta stop!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Lol OK. *stops*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You know what, I don't really believe in God or religion either, but I respect that you're just explaining yourself without actually trying to force people into it. I've just read through this whole conversation and it seems like the ones that are attacking are the ones saying "omgzz stop forcing it down our throats". You're giving them options: if you want to believe, do this or this, etc. You're not saying "DO THIS" and that's good.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thank you! Nowadays I can't explain to people what I believe without someone accusing me of 'shoving it down their throats'. I'm trying to have you understand what I believe and if you don't want to hear it, oh well!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why do you say him? What if l want to believe in a goddess? Oh wait... l can't because of l do, everything else would fall apart. I would have to lose myself to find invisible sky people. I can't do that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ok.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I never said I was born an atheist. I went to church from the time I was born, practically, until I was fourteen. I've been baptized, had my first communion and been confirmed as a Catholic. I also went through a phase at age thirteen where I went to several different places of worship and researched a bunch of religions to find "God." It's not as though I haven't been exposed to religion. It's not as though I haven't tried to believe. I have. I wish I could believe. It sounds beautiful, for the most part. But I simply cannot.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Going to church and doing all that stuff doesn't make you a Christian. Just because you couldn't find Him then, it doesn't mean you should just give up your search. Now, if you still want to find Him you are more than welcome to.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Love, I never claimed to be Christian. I'm not. I was simply stating, I've looked for god in many places. I've learned quite a bit about him and listened to many peoples takes on god. I simply cannot bring myself to believe in it. There's not much I can do about that. It's not as though I haven't tried. I've tried for years. I've tried to force myself to believe. But I simply cannot. I'm not saying I don't believe in anything--I do believe there must be SOMETHING more--I just don't... know what that is. But I don't believe it's a text book god like the one in... well, any "holy" book. Humans are terribly, beautifully flawed, why should their ideas of god be any different?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I will not follow any religion... religion is for retards and senile people

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I lol'd at this. And I'm an Atheist.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not if choosing a religion means actively practising it, because that way, if the atheists are right, then you're spending your entire life trying to get somewhere which doesn't exist.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You dont choose a religion. You follow God or Allah or whatever. I dont think people understand that you DONT follow a religon to escape a punishment.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

the way i see it, just do what makes you happy (minus breaking laws and such) and whatever happens, happens. if there's something after death, awesome. if there's not, at least you were happy while you were alive.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Pascal's Wager. So fucking retarded. This has been disproved so many times...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You clearly don't understand Pascals Wager. Most people don't really understand it. Taking into consideration only the parameters he put, it's actually logical and that type of thinking was advanced for his time. Of course those aren't the only parameters though. That's why it's been disproved. Pascal also only intended the wager as a means of beginning to have faith and not of getting into heaven.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

As time passes, more discoveries are made. And I've done a bit of research on Pascal's Wager. More than others, anyways...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I like what god stands for I just don't believe in him, her, or it. I think there are some people out there that just believe in a higher power because they don't want to be screwed over when they die. Those people are only religious and follow the bible for the sole purpose of saving themselves.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I tried the whole Catholic thing, Church, praying, bible study, to age 16ish. After years of trying, I found I don't need the security blanket that is religion. When you die, you die, no sugar coating it with fairy lands of heaven. Plus, I could be a good person all my life, volunteer, give to charity, make a hard worked living, be loving and friendly, minus the obvious human nature flaws of being a bitch sometimes etc, and even through all that, because I don't believe in God, I'd be going to hell if there was one. That is not the type of deity I would want to believe in.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

choosing a religion to avoid some fate after death is fear, not faith. i for one have just accepted that fear of death is something i must live with.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't see the point in forcing myself to beleive something that may or may not be true 'just in case'. Then what if I picked the wrong one? I'd rather not waste the time and effort.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Jesus the comment section lit up like a christmas tree.... you see what I did there?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It takes more faith to believe in the big bang theory than it does God. There is a preacher that has several million dollars in a bank account and he has said that if anyone can prove the big bang theory that they can have it. Many have tried but the money remains in the bank account.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's called a theory for a reason............

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Except that if you're an atheist you can't force yourself to believe, and a god would be like "lol noob you never believed. get pwned." so it wouldn't really make a difference
