+229 Republicans: "Look, we need to cut the deficit!" Obama: "Oh ok well let's start out by discontinuing the Bush tax cuts to those whose income is over $250,000.." Repiblicans: "NOOO WE NEED THOSE TAX CUTS TO AFFORD OUR 2ND YAUGHT!! amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Your tax cuts disabled you from learning how to spell

by Anonymous 13 years ago

that made no sense at all... excuse me for misspelling yaght and having a typo on republican.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Even then, you still misspelled yacht. Just sayin'...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

lol i swear i always misspell that word!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why should people with an over $250,000 income not get tax cuts? They obviously worked harder to maintain their financial stability, why should they be punished?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

exactly! penalizing the rich is not going to get us out of this economic deficit...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, I don't understand how that makes any sense whatsoever. Shouldn't matter if you're Republican or Democrat or WHATEVER, it's completely idiotic.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well it's a bit better than leaving rich people's incomes as they are, but cutting poor people's. I don't know if that's happening in America, but in Ireland that's what they're trying to do, they're reducing minimum wage by like €1 an hour, and doing nearly nothing to affect rich people. Of course, this is just what I've heard, so I'm not sure if it's entirely accurate.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wait, why give tax cuts to the rich but give nothing to the middle class? Equality.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's called socialism

by Anonymous 13 years ago

When did I say not to give tax cuts to the middle class? ' Hell, give tax cuts to everyone, INCLUDING people with a regular, if not high yearly income. you can't possible think it's fair that people are working their asses off every day to bring in a steady income to support themselves and their families, while lazy jackoffs sit around doing nothing, taking donations from the welfare office, and say that they shouldn't give tax cuts to the people that actually work hard.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If we gave tax cuts to everyone, would it still be a tax cut? I feel like that would just be the new standard? I dunno, I'm no politician.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, I don't know. I suppose it wouldn't really be a tax cut anymore. but, you see what I'm driving at?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I guess. I just feel like the rich have more money to spare than the normal person. Paying more taxes just seems logical to me so we can get out of this (13?) trillion dollar debt.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well no shit the rich have more money to spend... And if you do the math no amount of taxation will free us from our debt...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

http://www.usdebtclock.org/ Actually about $45,000 per person.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ok i meant to say something along the lines of reasonable taxation wouldn't solve the debt. Obviously you're not going to demand tax from children, which that number includes...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

$13 trillion debt? You mean from constantly borrowing money and all of Obama's bailouts and the new socialized health care Obama thought was genius? Bush def increased that debt during his reign, but it's mostly Obama.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2009/jan/22/rahm-emanuel/5-trillion-added-national-debt-under-bush/ When Bush entered office the debt was $5.73 trillion. When he left it was $10.7 trillion. You lose.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wait until the end of Obama's term, when he's done destroying this country.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Of course! The "recession" did not even begin until that man walked into office. Hell! He must be doing this on purpose! He doesn't care about us! He isn't trying to pay off the debt or anything.. I mean come on, he's been in office long enough to have already rebuilt our economy and fix every problem we have, right?! seriously? No matter what happens under any presidency, the Presidenct gets forever known as that president. Obama was not the cause of the recession, so please calm down and be logical.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I actually heard that Obama spent more in a year than Bush did in 10 years. Well, I don't know if that's right or not.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I must say that JUST because someone is not rich and has a hard time affording shit, does NOT mean that they are lazy jackoffs. Right now, the rich are only getting richer and the poor are getting poorer, the middle class is disappearing. There are tons of HARD WORKING Americans that are not making much right now.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Most hard-working Middle Class Americans, like my family, don't think that tax cuts should be taken away from the rich and given to the poor. It really is only the "lazy jackoffs" that want stuff like that to happen.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah well I heard that the rich are gonna get them anyway. But the truth is, it HAS to come from somewhere. Anywho, once an individual can devalue money and material (I know money is necessary to survive though) that person is closer to spiritual awakening than any person obsessed with material (like a yacht) -I am not trying to say dont work and shit, I am just simply saying that money and material are not the keys to happiness. I barely ever buy things for myself that I dont need-aside from concert tickets lol-but concerts are experiences that make me happy rather than material.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hey You may be living with your family now, and they may make good money. But eventually you will be out on your own-and probly poor at first, cus thats how that goes. You can be working your ass off too. Idk about you but I wouldnt be happy if my wealthy family got a tax cut and I was out on my own, poor as fuck paying out my ass-even if it is my family

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm pretty sure my dad makes over $250,000, but we're certainly not rich. My parents pay a shitload in taxes, because the NY state government is beyond stupid.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

$250,000 is pretty rich... I know my parents COMBINED make less than $125,000; and we still live a pretty good lifestyle. Example: they bought me a car, I have a season pass ($900) every year to go snowboarding, I own an Xbox360, PS3, and a Wii, and every few months we go shopping for some new clothes. Life would be even sweeter with $250,000 lol.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I assume you don't live in New York, in a school district that has no idea how to handle money? We have enough money for computers, games, some vacations [to FL. Driving, not flying], etc., but we're /not/ rich. Even if we are, why should we pay a LOT more in taxes just because we work hard? 10% of Americans already pay 97% of the taxes.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I live in Connecticut. In a school district that has *rented* lights for a football game 4 times in the past two years. Each time we rent lights, it costs $3,000. Biggest waste of money ever. Not to mention I have used books that my moms friends had when they attended here. I'm not saying the government should make people who make over $250,000 pay more, just have the same tax rate as everyone else.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think we have higher tax rates than most people, tbh. I still have to do research though, so I'll get back to you. Also regarding schools... My chem textbook is so old, it's missing elements. My football team gets new uniforms every year, but they can't win anything. The teachers' union is so powerful, they get increased pay every year and the GYM TEACHERS that do NOTHING get over $100,000 a year. However, we need to get 4th and 5th grade music programs, remove an elementary school, probably cut sports, require drama club to pay for the auditorium [even though they bring money in], etc. The teachers all have jobs because we need an education and a well-rounded transcript, but they're the ones winning.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"My chem textbook is so old, it's missing elements". I wish I could Love just one sentence lol. I don't know how much my teachers make, but it's probably close to that (the ones that have been here a while anyway). My football team can't win either. We went 9-2 this year but that's only because we got moved the the shittiest division haha

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It makes me really sad to see people disagreeing with you. I don't know how people think that people who make 250,000+ / year are all hardworking Americans because most of them are just corporate CEOs who get a lot of breaks from loopholes in the system anyway. For example, in California (I'm not sure if it's just CA) there is no tax when you buy a yacht. It's fucking ridiculous. That sales tax that SHOULD be on that product could pay for so many things in our failing education system.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My dad works 6+ days a week, usually from 6 AM to 7 PM. He's a pretty hard worker, IMO.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You are not gonna be living with your parents forever, eventually you will be out on your own and kinda poor-because everyone's poor when they first get out. I dont think you will care as much about your parents paying a bit more on taxes when you are living off potatoes and rice.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually, I will. They worked hard for that money. I know that if I worked my ass off all of these years and made a good living, I'd be pissed if a huge chunk of it was taken away

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Its not even that big of a chunk, but it doesnt really matter because rich people are gonna be getting tax cuts anyway I heard. I am just saying that YOU, yourself, are going to be on your own. YOU wont have much money at first, and you wont be getting a break. You wont be under your parents insurance, and they wont pay for your cell phone. If you get hurt or sick, YOU will be paying for it. If I was a rich parent, I would rather see my kid whose trying to get by in the world get a break on taxes than myself-A person who has already made it. But money and material is not the key to happiness anyway, maybe thats why I see things differently than you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because even after the tax cuts, the rich are paying more in taxes than everyone else.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So? Let's just say, for example, I make $100 per day. The government taxes me for 10% of that. So I make $90 per day. Now, what if you made $1,000 per day? I would expect the government would be fair and tax you 10% also, even if that means you pay $100 in taxes, compared to my $10.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They should not get a tax cut because they have the money. While they do contribute the most money, they do not contribute enough with respect to their salary.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/01/opinion/01friedman.html?_r=1&src=twt&twt=NYTimesFriedman This is relevant.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

NY Times? You mean the liberal paper?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Did you read?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Learn how to spell yacht. And stop hating on Bush, he isn't even the president anymore.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My grandparents make over $250,000 a year, including with their long term investments, etc. They both worked extremely hard to get where they are today, but the amount they pay in taxes is absolutely outrageous. One year, when my grandmother couldn't work, they actually ended up paying more in taxes than they received in income. It's a shitty system, and $250,000 isn't nearly as much as some people would think.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

$250,000 sounds like quite a lot to me. My mum makes about €20,000 a year, I think... And I have a good life, we get like everything we want... I could only imagine what $250,000 a year would be like!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

$250,000 is A LOT OF MONEY. Try telling a random person at a store that $250,000 isn't a lot, and they will bitch slap you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Uhm $250, 000 is heaps! (not super rich, but more than enough) My boyfriend and I make around $100, 000 a year combined and we get by fine, but if we got $250, 000 we'd have everything we'd want and have some to spare lol.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Once money is devalued, a spiritual awakening is near. Money and material are not the keys to happiness. Believe it or not, there IS technology that exists that would eliminate the need for money.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Also, think about those people with huge houses/mansions-those are such a waste of material, esp. when they have multiple rooms they dont even use. I mean If I had a ton of money, I wouldnt spend it on a 7342957439 sq. ft. house- i would use it to travel and experience the world. I also wouldnt bitch about paying a bit extra on the taxes, and it'd be cool cus again, I am not wasting money on a bunch of space that I would barely use.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If people want to waste their money on stupid shit like empty space, why the hell can't they? It would be wrong to tell them what they have to spend their money on.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I am not telling people how to spend their money, I am simply saying that it is stupid.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

how about we stop giving tax cuts to the rich, and just start taxing everyone? we all live in this country, we're all citizens, we should ALL have to contribute to the greater good in some way.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

All you people who say "250,000 is soooo much money omg" obviously live in areas with a low cost of living. Listen up, fools. If you live where I live in a rich area in California $250,000 as your household's total income doesn't buy jack squat. Making that much you will have a smallish one story house that may or may not have a backyard and a driveway, one car or maybe two if you go really cheap, and enough money to support two kids. That's it. No yacht, no lamborghini, nothing fancy that "rich people" are supposed to have. Just a normal life. But of course, this is a rich area, so what I've just described would be considered living very modestly. Most people where I live make well over that and have fairly large houses, new cars for each kid, and stuff like that. By all means, tax the rich, they have too much money. But change your definition of what rich is, because it's not always accurate.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

PEOPLE!!!! For the love of God if you're going to argue proof-read!!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I was one of the people who said 250,000 isn't that much money so let me elaborate. My grandparents, whom make this much, live outside of D.C. They don't own any yachts, any other property, etc. The cost of living there is far more expensive than most places. They live in a standard two story house, and are basically an average middle class couple. I never said nor do I think that 250,000 is not enough to get by because it certainly is. My parents make about 105,000 a year and I'm extremely grateful for everything I have. My point is is that 250,000 does not mean you own a mother fucking yacht and makes you a CEO of a company. Do some research. They didn't go through any fucking loopholes to get to where they are today and most wealthy people don't. It's called hard work.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Use some of that bailout to learn how to spell. You're just jealous because I do own two YACHTS

by Anonymous 13 years ago

and yet here you are on amirite. I highly doubt you have even ever set foot on a yacht

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Rich people word hard for their money unlike lazy or unfortunate people. I shouldn't have to give handouts to ANYBODY.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're right. Unfortunate people need to toughen up and stop having such a bad life situation. I mean, seriously.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Just because somebody is not rich doesnt mean they are being lazy and not working their asses off. Eventually, you will be out on your own not living with your parents. You are gonna be working hard, but you are still gonna be kinda poor. Some people work their asses off in factories all god damn day-a job that not many people want to do, but IT HAS to be done. They dont make squat. While there is a rich guy, sitting on his ass in some office-barely lifting a finger.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

First, when you factor in taxes, $250,000 becomes more like $147,000. It's really not much. Second, it's been proven that tax cuts actually help the economy- people are willing to take second jobs or expand businesses because they don't fell like they're working to send their money to the government. Third, people with higher income do not go off to buy a second yacht. Most charitable organizations are supported by the wealthy. My school wouldn't exist if it weren't for wealthy people willing to pay for it. Finally, ending the tax cuts would have the biggest impact on small business owners, not the extremely wealthy. And it would be a pretty devastating impact.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And buying said "yachts" would help the economy. That's why they have tax cuts in the first place.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Renegade: You are so the voice of reason in a mad world sometimes =) The rest of you: if you're not old enough to pay taxes, STFU about where the money goes. Quit parroting your parents and talk-show hosts and get a little unbiased information under your belt before you try to argue politics as well. Most of you sound completely ignorant.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

OMG I know! Everyone thinks the way they think because of their parents...Sad truth is-They are not gonna be living with their parents FOREVER. Eventually all these younguns WILL be on their own and they probly will be poor for a while at first. HA they will learn real fast.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wow. There's some harsh words being said here.... I like gold fish. The actual fish. Albeit, I happen to enjoy the cracker version, too.

I do NOT agree with how excessive the salaries and bonuses that current CEO's receive. However, I do agree that their benefits should be substantially more than the others because they take on a significant amount of risk with their position. CEO's are the scapegoats of every corporation and will be canned if something goes wrong that's completely irrelevant to their job. That amount of risk deserves extra benefits.

by Anonymous 13 years ago
