I agree, but then what do we call football. Tackleball? It doesn't sound as nice.

A lot of people around the world don't call it football because it can mean so many different sports: Soccer, American football and rugby. I guess it depends which one of those sports is prominent in your country.

Well, when America first became an independent country they changed a lot to be different from England. I dont know if that's why, but i always thought it was.

I heard it was because when soccer was first invented, or the first people to play or whatever, people wore socks with no shoes. SOCK...er.
