+303 If books didn't have symbolism and deeper meaning, a lot of them would be completely pointless. For example, Moby Dick: Some insane guy with a peg leg spends his life chasing a possibly satanic whale around the globe. Or take Catcher in the Rye: A whiny spoiled brat spends a few days aimlessly wandering around New York City. amirite?
