+167 There's no good reason ever to kill yourself. Life is a gift and you have to use it while it lasts. So your life sucks, well, go out and make it better! Life's what you make it. You choose your own destiny. Life shouldn't be wasted, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You really think that everyone can go out and make their life better? Not to be rude, but that's a really misguided statement. I'm not saying suicide is the answer, but for some people I wouldn't blame them.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

I think the OP doesn't understand suicide at all. It's not as simple as just making your life better to get that thought out of your head. And frankly, not everyone CAN make their life better. Honestly, do people think that if a kid knew how to make his life better he wouldn't? That's just too stupid to me. Also this post totally disregards depression and mental illness, which are very common in people who commit suicide.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Most people who commit suicide suffer from clinical depression, so you can't really say "Oh, they totally had a choice" when they didn't. But otherwise, I agree with you, muffinmonkey :)

by Anonymous 14 years ago

"So your life sucks, well, go out and make it better!" I have suffered from clinical depression and know many others who have, and we can't just "Go out and make it better." For some, it has nothing to do with the actual state of their life: they may appear to have everything and still be depressed. It's as much chemical as it is situational. And what is your opinion on those who are terminally ill? Just last week a man in my town with a terminal illness hung himself-- would you really tell him to go make his life better? Can you really blame him for taking his life?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

If you have serious depression, you should get help. And that man shouldn't have done what he did and he probably wasn't thinking, but he could have gotten help. There's always hope.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

I have. And that man was given six months to live, tops. There really wasn't much else he could do. I agree that he shouldn't have; but I can see why he would.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Well, I guess you have a point.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Hah! No, when your body is riddled with cancer and you can't even walk anymore and you've got brain tumors making you forget who you are, it's a much better choice to end it than suffer. There is no hope at that stage.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

By "make it better" I also meant that if you suffer from clinical depression, you should talk to someone you trust and get help. That way, you are making things better.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

What if you don't know anyone you can trust? What if you don't know that there's something wrong because you've always had negative thoughts and you think that's just how life is? Not everyone knows what depression really is or how to get help. That's a big problem, actually.

i never was diagnosed with clinical depression by a doctor, but the ADD specalist I saw said i have slight depression he thinks as well as ADD, but he isn't certified. I found the best thing to do is art, even if you can't make life better, create art, and even if it doesn't make you happy, it will make others happy, which helps more than anything

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You obviously don't understand what its like to truly suffer from depression, pain, illness, etc. Most people don't just choose to make their life suck, its not like a switch you turn on and off. Clinical depression is a medical condition, not a mindset. Its caused by an imbalance of chemicals in your brain, not thinking negatively or just DECIDING to be upset. Its not even necessarily caused by a situation you might be in. This post is kind of insensitive to that.

I hate you. If you have a mental illness, such as depression (as I do) your not really in your right mind to "go out and make it better". Trust me, if I could, there would be NOTHING to stop me from doing that. Suicide is never the answer, but neither is telling someone to "go fix it" or "get over it". Yes I have heard both of those from many people. Why does this have positive votes?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

First of all, you don't have any reason to say "I hate you". This post is just encouraging you to be positive. I understand you have depression (I've been through it too), but in the end, it's all about your attitude towards life that determines if you're happy or not. I am NOT blaming you for being depressed, nor would I blame someone who committed suicide because of depression. However, if someone isn't happy with their life, the only thing that is preventing them from being in a happy mindset is themselves.

I absolutely agree with you. I have been through severe depression almost 2 years back but I've completely changed now. @1241993 (Princessa): And Princessa, what those people have told you is certainly a wrong thing to do, but the person who posted this post is just advising and making you realise that your life is in your control. You do have the power to change it, although it does take time to notice this and it is also a difficult thing to achieve. I think it is who you are surrounded by which determines the time when you notice that you do have that power. It is this time when your attitude towards life changes, as Mario said. Despite this, you may still be depressed when you start thinking in that direction. I remember that I asked myself, 'So, who are you going to be? Which type of person should I choose to be?' Overall, I do hope that you soon realise that what this post has to say is true. I don't want you to waste your life in some way. I want you cheris...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I want you to cherish it before it's too late. *

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I know you've probably heard people say this before, but "hate" is a strong word. And actually, I wrote this before I learned more about depression and different types of mental and emotional states. I understand that people are never fully in control of their entire lives, but that doesn't mean that they have no control. Also, I don't think you should be putting words in my mouth. I never said that people who are clinically depressed should "get over it". Making life better can take a while for people. All I meant by posting this was that people should try not to lose hope or give up.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You are oversimplifying suicide. Don't post about things you don't understand.

I must say, whenever someone says 'life is what you make it' I instantly remember those days when I used to listen to miley cyrus's lyrics: life's what you make it so let's make it rock; let's celebrate so common everybody now.. don't make no small frustration ever break you down; just take that situation and turn it all around; with the new attitude everything can change you make it all you want it to be...'

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The only parts I have nothing to say against in this post are the sentences that start with "life". No wait, not that second one. That one can be argued against, but people above me have already done that.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Hey, that gives me an idea! MUHAHAHA!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The only time I would commit suicide is after zombies have taken over the world and I'm almost out of ammo.
