I also laughed at a line in "The Secret Garden" that said "All she enjoyed was going to parties and amusing herself with gay people."

There was an Australian poem:
Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Merry, merry king of the bush is he
Laugh, Kookaburra! Laugh, Kookaburra!
Gay your life must be

We had to sing that in chorus last year. It was an eight grade chorus. You can imagine the response.

I'm not gonna lie... I could never even understand that line to begin with, haha.

When I was at school, the teacher changed it to "Bright".
We still said gay.

I always thought it wasy "Don, we now our day of parrol!"

i never even knew what "gay" was until middle school >: my parents didn't exactly shelter me, per se, but it never really came up in discussion, aside from one time with my sister.
"ooh, look at that pretty flag! i want one!" -pointing to a rainbow flag-
"that means they're gay."
"oh. ...i want a flag like that!"
