+298 Yes, in some Asian cultures, eating dog and/or cat is acceptable. Yes the west thinks its gross. But for some reason no its not gross to eat cow, pork, chicken, fish or even elk, frog, deer, game bird, etc. Umm, there's a reason why western countries are thought to be racist, stereotypical and imperialistic. amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What does the second part have to do with the first? Btw we think it's gross because we've domesticated those animals and keep them as companions. It would be equally as gross to eat a horse, goldfish, or your pet bird. But deer, salmon, and game fowl aren't. It's just mentality

by Anonymous 13 years ago

that is exactly what the OP is trying to say, when it is just perspective then why do you make fun of them for it? In India cows are decorated and groomed and stuff but they don't talk shit about westerners for eating beef do they?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know it's what the op is trying to say, I was just expanding on it. And the only reasons people talk shit about is because we become emotionally attached to them AND most people think that different = bad, especially high class white North Americans

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually yes they do talk shit about us for eating beef.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

K well i am Indian and i know more indians than you ever will in your lifetime and i never heard anyone say anything like that. I also speak several Indian languages so i would know if they talk about it "behind your backs". Vegetarians may say something about Non-Veggies in general but Non-Veg Hindus don't go shaking their fingers at people of other religions for eating beef. You shouldn't believe everything you see on TV.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No actually that's from several friends that moved to the U.S. from India. They've gotten over it but their parents not so much.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There's a reason why eastern countries are thought to be racist, stereotypical, and imperialistic as well.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well, yes, but at the same time, dogs and cats are domestic animals. I mean, the second that China can figure out a way to domesticate turkeys and deer then we have no reason to judge.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

first of all turkeys have been domesticated. domesticated is not the same thing as "being trained". and second of all If you eat chicken, beef, or pork you shouldn't be making this argument as they are all domesticated animals.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

dont be a prick anon. Maybe a couple of hillbillys have turkeys and pigs as legitamite pets but honestly, dogs and cats as a pet is a normal thing to do, do eating them would be rough. But a pig is not a normal pet, so eating it isnt a big deal.

Stop being so sensitive

by Anonymous 13 years ago

in school, there's always some girl who says that it's messed up to eat dogs. But why is it really? It's just meat, and I'm sure it can be pretty good. Like everyone else is saying, it's about the same as a hindu finding it offensive that we eat cow. It's a cultural belief. people honestly get too attached to dogs and cats nowadays. Yes they shouldn't be abused, but it's not like they're humans or anything. You could do the same kind of shit to a "less cute" animal and no one would give a fuck. Well other than PETA.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

People protect "ugly" animals; hell, some dogs and cats are ugly. People keep iguanas as pets and they're ugly as sin, imo. Either you've never had a pet you were close to, or you're a cold sonovabitch. Animal cruelty is not put on the same level with assault or murder of a person... not even close, so why bothering to compare them? However, deliberately abusing an animal is something that is often indicative of other violent anti-social behavior, so having that on their record might be helpful when they graduate to rape or murder as showing a pattern of behavior. Enjoying causing pain to another living creature(unless they want you to hello ) is a sign of something seriously wrong with a person. As far as the post goes- I don't assume asian people eat cats and dogs when they live in the US. If they do, I hope they won't tell me, because the idea makes me kind of sad.

*bother

by Anonymous 13 years ago

...I don't remember bothering to compare them? I do have a pet cat which I love, and I don't care that some people eat cats. That's just the way the world works there. That's what they chose as food. We chose them to be pets, companions, friends. Same deal with cows in India. I don't try to cause pain to my cat. I mess with it sometimes by like maybe throwing a pillow at it, but I don't attempt or enjoy causing pain to other living creatures. And when I say a less cute animal, I mean the kind that someone probably wouldn't keep as a pet. Something not furry, possible an annoyance to humans. Pugs look like they were shot out of a cannon into a wall, but people still love them anyway. Supposedly, they're so ugly that they're cute, but I don't see it. Also iguanas aren't ugly. they're just lizards. there's a difference, but I'm not sure what it is.

Oh I didn't think you personally beat animals(or ate them), you just seemed like you didn't think animal cruelty is a big deal, and I do. Wouldn't you think it was terrible if someone mutilated your cat or something?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You just went on an animal cruelty rant for no reason. We're talking about eating them, not beating the shot out of them

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Uh, no, I replied to rapemaster. He says animal cruelty isn't a big deal; I presented arguments for why I disagreed. I understand it's slightly off subject, but that's pretty common on this site. It's also a pet subject of mine, no pun intended.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

He never said animal abuse isn't a big deal, he said that people could get away with it to less cute animals, such as cows or mules.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"Yes they shouldn't be abused, but it's not like they're humans or anything." How is this not saying animal abuse isn't a big deal?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What he's saying is that beating an animal is not synonymous to beating another person.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If you eat any type of meat your argument is invalid.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You are an idiot. Eating meat is not even in the same ballpark as animal cruelty. Even if I hunted and killed my own meat, unless I tortured my kill to death it wouldn't be the same. Your comment is invalid.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Its because im black isnt it...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I heard cats are pretty good actually..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

anyone else find it funny that they stereotyped western countries as stereotypical?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, if you think about, livestock is brought up to be eaten, not to be cherished pets.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So if cats and dogs aren't pets, why would it be wrong to eat them? If eating a stray cat keeps you from starving, why would you not eat it?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Perhaps if this animal was not domesticated and loved by humans nor were its parents.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, the premise of my argument was that it was a wild/stray animal.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If you eat cats or dogs your fucked up. People have had either one of those animals in their house and have trained them to respond to commands. I highly doubt you would be possible to do that with turkeys or cows. Besides, how the fuck do you know what people in other countries think about our customs?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Pigs are smarter that dogs and people eat them. You don't have to be intelligent to feel.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Damn, these people need to learn how not to take things to literal, just fucking read the post, get a laugh if you think it's funny, don't laugh if you don't think it's funny, then continue on to the next fucking post.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well they eat dolphins too... It all just depends on your perspective.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well I don't have a cow for a pet, but I do have a dog.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Cats have more protein than most meats that are eaten in America. And I've heard horse is very delicious.
