+265 Fat people: don't try to get a healthy body image, try to get a healthy body. America's number one health problem is obesity, not anorexia or bulimia amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Doesn't that apply to everyone, not just fat people?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

why not get both? why not be happy with how you look but also understand you need to eat healthier foods?

There are fat people that don't live in America, you know.

Yeah but it probably isn't the country's number one health problem

I'm sorry, but this post is worded horribly. It sounds like it's saying anorexia/bulimia is ok to have in order to overcome obesity, as they pale in comparison to it.

I thought it was saying that you shouldn't try to become skinny, you should try to become healthy. But I see how the worded might be a bit confusing... I'm not OP, btw.

Well, I know that they were just saying to have a healthy body and whatnot, but the wording makes me cringe.

yeah, and the big thing for me is the fact that obesity is a physical state, whereas bulimia and anorexia are states of mind resulting in physical change...it's like the two groupings are in different leagues. if anything anorexia and bulimia are worse, because they attack you both physically AND mentally...

I'd say they are worse. Both those and obesity are crippling when at an extreme level, but like you said, eating disorders affect people a lot more.

If you don't have a healthy body image, then why would you want to lose weight to become healthy? You need a healthy body image to motivate yourself to lose weight in a healthy way.

I know. It irks me when obese people go "I'm happy with my weight, I have a good body image and I'm happy." That's all well and good, but it doesn't mean you're healthy and fit. Why not be a good weight, healthy and happy about your body at the same time?

If you want to work out and start eating healthy than you DO have a healthy image of how you should treat your body. Also, in MOST cases being obese/even just alittle chubby is just a SYPTOM of emotional issues. Just like throwing up or refusing food is a syptom of deeper issues and feelings.
