+324 It's strange to think that, when you're speaking languages like Spanish, French, or Italian, you're just speaking a dialect of Latin, amirite?

How ironic, I just had an argument with KickAss yesterday about how Spanish evolved from Latin

They're all Romance Languages, which meas they came from the Romans, so I'm assuming that the Romans brought their language to France, Italy, Spain, and so on, and then they merged with local languages (explaining the difference between dios/jour and stuff)

The Romans actually did settle a lot of Europe, especially France. They knew that Paris, being a confluence, would be very beneficial. They also set up Marseilles as a port city.

Also a dialect of Ancient Greek

The ancient Greek alphabet came from the Phoenicians and Arabs. Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet as Alef is the first letter of the Arabic alphabet.

(Chauncy Pickles): I already knew. What does this have to do with the post, though?

Tellin it like it is, I guess.

(Chauncy Pickles): I think Spanish, French and Italian resemble Latin more than they resemble Ancient Greek. But I also resemble my dad more than I resemble my mum, doesn't mean I don't have two parents.

Okay, but unlike your parents (I hope), Latin descended from Ancient Greek.

(Chauncy Pickles): Spanish, French and Italian are cousins. Ancient Greek's the grandma and Latin's the aunt. ... I use weird logic.

From what does Portuguese come? And don't say the obvious answer.

Alpha | Beta | Gamma | Delta Alef | Baa | Ghain | Daal

Well, not to mention that a buttload of English words come from Latin...and Harry Potter spells for that matter

I always considered dialects to be variations that can still be distinguished as the same language. American English and British English are dialects but French and Spanish are different languages completely. They just have the same origin, but then again every spoken language has a similar origin...
