Not at all actually

why not

First, punctuation is good. Second, that doesn't even make sense. If I wrote a book and wrote good things about my characters it wouldn't be at all the same as complimenting myself.

Yes it is..take J.K. Rowling for an example. Say she writes the quote "To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure", then she has a bunch of characters refer to the quote or the man who said it (Albus Dumbledore) as brilliant. Essentially, she is complimenting herself.

Fair enough, that makes sense

That's not necessarily true. Maybe someone Rowling knew said that, and she has a lot of respect for said person. Or Dumbledore could be based on someone else, and by doing so Rowling is complimenting one of her role models, or someone she idolizes. As someone who writes a lot, I find that most of my characters have some aspect of me in then, but they are more based on other characters. The character I praise the most in my current story is based on my brother, for example. There's still bias, but at least it's not self aggrandizing.

Depends. If you're just saying the character you made is nice, then you're not complimenting yourself because anyone can make a nice character. But if you say your character has great character development and brings readers into your novel, then you're indeed complimenting yourself.

Or if you compliment your character on having great insights into the human psyche or being very smart because of something he/she said, that's also complimenting yourself.
