+95 So what if Latin is a dead language? Beethoven is a dead composer, but he's still amazing, and he played a huge role in forming what's so great about music nowadays, amirite?

Actually, the analogy's quite a good one. Latin has formed the basis of our language, just as Beethoven's music has formed the basis of contemporary music. Plus, Latin literature has heavily influenced later works: Paradise Lost all the way to Battlestar Galactica. Latin's hella useful.
