It's a book without pictures. That kind of makes it literature. Using the logic that it's not literature because it "leads you into fantasy" means that no fiction book would ever be considered literature because they all lead you into a different fantasy world, and literature is always used to refer to fiction.

well, "any book withotu pictures" is a dumbed down version. Any chapter book that isn't a comic or graphic novel is literature. I don't see why it wouldn't be considered literature. Considering you said "more like a way to leave your own life into a fantasy", that makes it sound like it's either one or the other and it can't be literature because fo that reason.

No, no. Harry Potter Fans aren't screaming and freaking out, and all that Twilight Fans do. They just want Edward to "bite them". HP fans are not as annoying. ALSO, I don't see why parents won't let kids read them because they don't like witch craft. It's not incouraging you to become a witch. It's just a story.

I wasn't allowed to read past the second book for years because my mom was afraid I'd be "influenced". I read the books anyways this summer, and she didn't find out until I had read all of the books.

Stepping aside from my love for Harry Potter, and looking at it from a literary sense (theme, plot, and all that) Harry Potter is a lot better than most. It's not just about fairytale endings and 'witchcraft'. Wish I could say the same for twilight, but we fanfiction authors have a name for stories like that. Fluff. It's pointless, and lovey dovey, but makes you hopeful and happy. Well... At least some people.
