+225 Why are we so concerned with exploring the solar system when we haven't even explored the entirety our own planet yet? amirite?

Because Americans have a really short attention span.

Americans aren't the only country interested in exploring space.

Not saying they are at all: just in general, the American public has a short attention span. For instance, when there is some scientific discovery, it's in the news for about 2 hours.

Because the news is too busy covering depressing news stories and disussing politics and celebraties. They gotta make sure to get all the bad things in before taking care of the good things. We simply CAN'T have people turning the news off happy!

I don't see Haiti in the news much...

So what?

I guess it seems somewhat contradictory when the paparazzi obsessively [and quite ridiculously actually] flock towards celebrities for weeks over tiny things, while the Haitian earthquake was in and out of the news. All in all, it seems like this is a matter of opinion, and I entirely respect yours. And for that matter, I don't even disagree entirely with your original statement. Just thought it was a thought-provoking statement, so I applaud you on that.

Maybe because some people find space to be much more fascinating than our planet.

I get that, I guess. I just think it's a big waste of money.
