I thought Russia was part of Europe, and most the Middle East was part of Africa?
But, also Indians, as India is a part of Asia.

i'm iraqi does that make me asian? >.<

Dunno. I'm gonna have another check at a world map.
But, the point of the post was, there are countries in continents whose citizens don't spring to mind when you think of the continent. Another example would be that many people in South Africa are white, yet the typical "African" people would be thought of as black.

lol i just thought of mean girls...

Haha, that scene was classic.
But, yeah, that's another issue that nationality doesn't equal race. My mate's family moved around a lot, and he's Caucasian, but he was born in Thailand. So, in a legal sense, he is Asian as a nationality (although I think he does have Australian citizenship now), but not by race.

yes yes

Russia is in both Europe and Asia
by Anonymous14 years ago
Thank you.
Is it split culturally/socially, as in how Ireland is sort of divided (North/South with the Northern part being part of the UK)?
by Anonymous14 years ago
Because Russia is classified as being in Eurasia, not specifically Europe or Asia.
by Anonymous14 years ago
That makes them both, not neither.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Yeah, when people say 'Asian' they usually mean Chinese, Japanese or Korean.
by Anonymous13 years ago
"So are ya chinese er japanese" hank hill
by Anonymous13 years ago
In the USA Asian refers mostly to Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese etc. Sino-Asia.
In the UK it refers more to Indian, Pakistani, Bengali, Sri Lankan. Indo-Asia
This is because these respectively are the "relevant referent objects" there is a large population of Japanese in the USA, with relatively few from Bangladesh, therefore it would not make sense to include the Bengali within the term Asian. Whereas in Britain we have a large minority from the subcontinent, hence our term.
None of this, of course, much to do with the post, but to clarify: Russia as we think of it is largely European, if not geographically, then culturally. However there are many Russian cultures that are both geographically and culturally Asian.

Russia is generally thought of as part of Europe....
by Anonymous13 years ago
It depends on if you're talking about nationality or race.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Probably because Russians aren't Asians.
by Anonymous13 years ago
