Meme is pronounced meem, mot mey-mey, amirite?
by Anonymous14 years ago
I pronounced it "mehym" before first hearing it phonetically. I still think that sounds better.

I say 'Meem' now but when I first heard it I thought it was 'mey-mey'

It's pronounced 'mem', it comes from the French for 'same'.

It rhymes with cream, that's how I remember it. But I think mee-mee sounds better.

I've always pronounced it 'mee-mee'. The internet is an ever-changing place; do we really need a set pronounciation of the word to describe its in-jokes?
by Anonymous14 years ago
I personally think that there should be some set pronunciation because when you want to use it when talking to a friend, both of you know exactly what the other person is talking about.
I think its just like any other word. Yes, some places might pronounce some words differently, or there could be alternate pronunciations, but in general, I think that the pronunciation of a word should stay consistent.
